This is going to be either a voltage adjustment or a faulty control board and/or Y sustain board.
You need to have a qualified technician check the voltages on these boards to determine if they need to be adjusted or else (if the voltages are fine) these boards will need to be replaced.
How about ru-52sz51d ?
I've dealt with DLP projectors and TVs for over two years and never had to send out a technician to calibrate after a bulb replacement unless of course the light engine has been jolted out of position. You may be looking for more than just a calibration, you may need repair service. Calibration was common with front/rear projection TV's when they used 3 lenses. DLP only uses one so other than focus and color adjustments, regular calibration shouldn't be necessary unless something is wrong inside.

Try a power drain and if this doesn't work, it appears the power supply is defective or is not connected to the mainboard. If the connection was poor, simply moving it may have dislodged it and service would be required to reconnect it. Try the power drain first:
1. Unplug the product's power cable so that the device is not grounded to the house. Do not simply turn off the power-bar if one is in use.
2. Press and hold in the products power button for 1 minute to release the retained electricity from the capacitors and circuit board.
3. Plug the product back into the wall outlet rather than a power-bar to rule it out of contributing to the problem and turn the device back on.
Hope this works for you.
LG 42pc3r, Starting problems.
First thing to try is a power drain:
If this doesn't solve the issue, it sounds like your TV's connection between the power supply and the mainboard is defective. If the power supply was shot, you would hear nothing at all. I hope the above step helps.

Is the onscreen menu just as distorted and are the lines across it or behind it? The pop you heard may have been a capacitor and since the TV is still powering on, it's the probably the video controller board that is on it's way out. If the onscreen menu looks fine, you maybe having a problem with the input board only so try a DVD that uses a different input and if it's poor, I would say the TV needs to have the input/output board service. If the OSD is distorted as well then it's definitely the video controller board and service is likely required.

Most likely it's the PDP panel failure. It may cost you more to repair then to buy a new one.
Problem with LG 42 inch plasma
If you notice these dots when you use Video or HDMI inputs, then you need to do something to get rid of them.
Open the back cover, try to reduce the Vs voltage 5-10V below its spec value. Vs is from Power Supply Board and its spec value was printed on the back of PDP panel. If your tv is under warranty, just drop it to the warranty depot shop.

LG RT-42P245V-Band of pink
The PDP (plasma) panel has gone bad and need to be replaced. This is not a user serviceable part and cost about 1/3 of buying a new unit plus the cost of labor for a two-man job. I would hope that this unit was purchased less than 1 year as warranty for parts and labor is 1 year. If not I do hope you purchased an extended warranty or paid it with a MasterCard (some MC card provider extends the warranty by another year). Cost of repair for flat screen TVs are high so it really a wise investment to purchase extended warranty. Fixya offers extended warranty on your future electronics purchase. Hope this helps.

This tv is capable of working with 1080P. Depending on what you are hooking up to it will depend on if you get that resolution.
When watching dvd having showing or fade background
yes it can be down to signal degradation especially via scart lead, make sure you use a decent scart if you buy an expensive one you can tell the difference.
Run a cable from your sky digibox direct to your tv to see if the picture improves.
Funny noise on LG TV
This is a problem with alot of TV sets. Most of the time, women can hear this alot better then men because they have better hearing then men. There is what we call in the buisness, a "singing coil". The problem could be simply the coil is singing and will need to be replaced because the windings of wire that makes up the coil is not wrapped tight enough or this noise could be the sign of future problems to come as a bad switching power supply capacitor or a capacitor going bad. I am sorry to say there is not alot an end user can do except call out a tech to have a look. Good Luck
