I have a singer 7466 and the bobbin won't load error code 88. please help!

An 88 error code is a generic one. It could mean that the needle isn't moving properly when the machine is turned on, there could be a problem at the bobbin or the computer for the machine is compromised. When did the error occur (regular sewing or bobbin winding)? First, make sure that the needle is at the highest point with the hand wheel. Turn the machine off and then back on. Does the needle move to the side and back to the center? If so, then the problem is elsewhere. If the needle didn't move, I'd still recommend that you clean the area under the bobbin case. If you were winding a bobbin, try a different bobbin. Check for any burs that might block smooth rotation of the bobbin. If you were doing regular sewing, also try a new bobbin. Check the bobbin case and hook areas for lint and clean them out. If the error still persists, the machine needs to be serviced. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

I have a Singer 7466 and recently I developed an issue with the thread stripping and then breaking.

three possible reasons old cotton will break or shred easily so get brand new cotton next is eye size of the needle a small eye with a heavy gauge cotton will not allow the cotton to pass easily next is needle /hook timing out of time allows the hook to pierce the needle thread and create the problem take it to a service centre for a check of the timing

The black plastic piece the bobbin fit in is broken.

You may have a timing problem or bent needle. You will need to replace the bobbin basket if it is damaged.

?The top stitches are fine; the bottom stitches are very loose.

Firstly check the tension on your bobbin case is sufficient or if the thread is actually into the spring fully, this is most likely cause of bottom thread loose stitching. You can test bobbin case tension adjustment using the "Dangle" test, here is a link to some good images to help.http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Repair/Thread_Tension_Settings.htmIf you look closely and there is actually looping on the underside then is is the top thread coming to the underside and not being tensioned back up; so top thread is not under tension enough or at all. Set top tension to 4-5, then recheck the threading up and and always thread with the presser foot raised as this opens up the tension device so the thread can seat in fully. Once you've threaded to just before the needle thread guide, lower the presser foot and pull the thread downwards, it should be very firm if its under tension. Tension devices can get gunked up or fail with use so if you can't get it to feel firm, it will need a technican to investigate further.

Do you have a manul for your machine?
you can download it from here http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/467_7466_efs.pdf

I can't see anything relating to error message 88 in the manual.

So I would suggest you start by trouble shooting the bobbin case, go to page 76 in manual and folloing images, take out bobbin case, clean and replace it. Turn machine off first and once its back in turn it on and see if the 88 code has reset.

Then redo bobbin winding, and threading up. Start with the manual instructions on this page 18 and 20 and work through it step by step. Make sure bobbin is in the right way so thread is feeding off in the right direction. Also just a thought, you haven't got a stray bobbin in there that isn't a Singer one??

I hope that this helps you to eliminate your machine problem, obviously if this doesn't solve it you may need to take it for a service and see if the 88 display relates to something within the machine circuitry.

Singer 7466 knocks loudly when sewing

Oil it; wherever metal rubs on metal. Take apart the machine; where there are small holes in metal pieces, oil it.

Hi, This is regarding a Singer sewing machine,

You probably have to coax it a little at the seams, just don't be too forceful, like try a real thin knife to see if it gives a little on the sides and top. So remember be gentle when trying to get it apart

I don't think that you can mix threads and have it work smoothly. They always said to have about the same weight and type in both.

Bobbin Problem

There should be a troubleshooting section in the manual that will direct you to what you need to do.

If you need a manual, go to the Singer Company website to download.

I have a 7466 Singer sewing machine. No matter how

Make sure to thread the machine with the presser foot up to insure the thread is seated into the tension control.

Always free-motion with the presser foot down.

Try a lower setting on the tension.

Hemming Levi's for husband. Using thick

Hi! Sounds like you're doing everything right to me, so let's see.

By not getting a straight stitch on the bottom, do you mean that the bobbin thread is loopy? If so, then most likely you have to reset the tension. Get a scrap of jeans material and practice on that....it would be great if you could use different color threads on top and in the bobbin, but that might not be practical if you don't have the jeans thread in different colors already.

You'll be adjusting the top tension, because even tho the top stitch looks perfect, it may not be tight enough to pull the bobbin thread up into the fabric where it belongs.

Sew a couple of inches on your scrap, then stop and check the bobbin thread. If it's loopy, you can also see the top thread on the underside. (Which is why using two colors is helpful.) With the pressure foot down, tightened the top tension just a bit. Sew a few more inches and check again. Keep on sewing, checking, and adjusting until you can't see any (or almost any) top threads on the bottom or bobbin threads on top.

Here are a couple of other ideas to check:

1. Make sure your bobbin is inserted correctly. If I happen to put one in backwards by mistake, the bobbin will make a lot of clanking noises.

2. Using your flywheel, lower the needle all the way through the stitch-making process to see if it's hitting anything along the way.

3. Oil your machine.

4. Make sure all the screws etc on your throat plate (also called needle plate) are tight. (I've had mine get loose and that will definitely throw a knock into the works!)

Check out these ideas and let me know if anything works, or if the problem is still there, ok?

Happy Sewing!

Can't seem to wind a bobbin on Singer 7466

HI, THERE ARE SEVERAL THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN YOU ARE WINDING A BOBBIN. FIRST CHECK YOUR THREAD, IS IT ON THE MACHINE GOING IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION. SECOND CHECK TO SEE IF YOU ARE THREADING THE THREAD THRU THE BOBBIN AREA ON TOP OF THE MACHINE CORRECTLY. I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR MACHINE, BUT MOST HOME MACHINES HAVE THE BOBBIN THREADER ON TOP...THIS IS WHERE PART OF THE TENSION NEEDED COMES FROM TO WIND THE BOBBIN. NEXT, DOES YOUR MACHINE REQUIRE YOU TO LOOSEN THE TENSION ON THE WHEEL, OR DOES YOUR MACHINE HAVE YOU MOVING THE BOBBIN POST BEFORE IT WORKS. LASTLY, CHECK HOW YOU ARE ADDING YOUR THREAD TO THE BOBBIN AND PLACING IT ONTO THE BOBBIN HOLDER, IF IT IS NOT CORRECT IT WILL JUST SPIN OFF THE THREAD. I USUALLY LET THE THREAD GLIDE THRU MY FINGERS AT FIRST TO MAKE SURE I HAVE THE CORRECT TENSION. SOME MACHINES HAVE A TENSION SCREW THAT YOU CAN ADJUST THE THREAD TENSION. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MANUAL FOR YOUR MACHINE, GO TO SINGER AND MOST LIKELY THEY WILL HAVE ONE THAT YOU CAN PURCHASE. I HAD TO BUY ONE ONCE AND IT WAS ABOUT $15.00, MAYBE THERE IS A SITE YOU CAN GET ONE FOR FREE I DON'T REALLY KNOW. HOPE THIS HELPS. JUST A SLIGHT THING NOT CORRECT AND YOUR MACHINE WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY, SO IT MAYBE JUST YOU HAVE SOMETHING BACKWARDS OR YOU NEED TO LOOSEN THE FLYWHEEL OR MOVE THE BOBBIN PEG.

Feed dogs on Singer 7466 wont stay up.

There is a screw behind the feed dog with a plastic nut ,you need to loosen the nut and move the screw up or down and retighten where needed,,,,,,,,,also there is a plastic support under that screw that could have come out of place ,which means you will have to open the machine to reinstall it.
