Quilting on Janome MC 4000
I have a MC4000 and a manual. To raise or drop the feed dog, remove the accessory box and feel at the back of the free arm there is a lever that will slide left or right to raise or lower the feed dog. I am not a quilter, but the manual says to use foot A (zigzag foot) and accessory L (quilter) which appears to be a guide. Cheers, Deb, Townsville, Australia
Machine does not power up
Hi,
The fuse is located in a little black box underneath the base of the
machine, but it is not an easy job to take the box out, disassemble it,
replace the fuse, and then reassemble the whole machine. I suggest you
take it to a service center.
Stops sewing
Sounds like the motor is stressing and a cut-off is operating to protect from overheating........ensure the bobbin area under the needle plate is clean and clear of lint, and that there is no thread jammed around in this area, also at the take-up arm and the cams at the far left of the upper shaftnear the needlearm.........if there is thread wrapped around anything, unwind it VERY CAREFULLY .....DO NOT pull and break it, be patient and move the handwheel gently in reverse while gripping the trapped thread, working it free slowly.
Of course it may be that the motor is old and needing a replacement, but as this machine is quite elderly and may have other complicating issues, you would be best to have someone take a look at it for the best decision of fix or replace, if it comes to that point.
Machine will not sew
Most likely a bad fuse. It needs to go to a repairman who knows Janome machines

Need to replace the light
You will need to obtain a new lamp from a Janome dealer.......they will probably offer to install it for you for no additional charge.......just ring to agree a time.
It is a small low voltage, simple push in type lamp & I believe the part number to be: 000 009 906
Just make sure the machine is NOT plugged in when you change it !!
Bobbin thread bunching
Hi,
Remove your needle plate, and take out the black bobincase. Check the edges on the black bobbincase for scratches or damages. The upper tread should glide smootly around the upper edge of this bobbincase.
If you find any scratches, you may use a very fine sandpaper/grindingpaper (not shure what you call this in english) to remove the scratches.
How to put on presser foot "p" to embroider
Not shure you can embroider on an MC4000, i think this is only a sewingmachine.
But to change presser fot:
If it a "snap on" foot, when foot lifted, press the "button" on the back of the needle bar (on the bottom) this would release the presser foot.
If is a large foot, you have to unscrew the screw on the left side of the needlebar, and change the whole foot.
I have a Janome model 577 (I know it's old!!) and
If the top tension is on 0 I suspect the problem begins in the bobbin, make sure first of all the bobbin is turning anti clockwise in the bobbin case, when you pull the thread through the bobbin case there should be slight resistence, if it is too loose turn the screw on the bobbin case clockwise about a quarter of a turn to tighten, if it is not making muh difference you may have fluff stuck under the spring on the bobbin casem take a fine sewing needle and slide it under the spring to see if you can get any fluff out, top tension about 4 or 5
Where can I find a Janome kwiknit Knitter CHJ-3 munual?
I have the Janome CHJ-3 Kwiknit Knitter and am having some problems with it. Purchased this machine some40 years ago and used it an awful lot and was always very happy with it. After storage and loaning it out, it now does not work. Needs a service I suppose which I would like to do myself. Does this machine have a sponge bar? Also I can copy the manual and send it to you - please let me know.
Can I download embroidery editor from janome site instead of downloading from cd
You can download the Artistic Designer program from Janome,
https://www.janome.com/products/software/ . However, it will not work unless you have purchased a license key from a dealer. For other Janome software, only updates for supported software are available:
https://www.janome.com/support/general-support/software-support/ . You'll either need the program to have been installed on your computer or to put the CD in an optical disc drive. If your current computer doesn't have an optical disc drive, you can get a USB optical drive from Amazon or any other shop that has electronic/computer parts. USB DVD read/write drives are under $50 even at most shops that don't discount accessories. You may need the USB type C (M) to USB type A (female) adapter with some of the newest models (laptops and tablets).
I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the name and version of your software for further assistance. If your software is no longer supported by Janome, there are some third-party embroidery editing software packages. One is
https://www.embird.net/ .

Your space is not formatted correctly to the size of the hoop. For example if the hoop is 5x7 your design has to fit within that space, and the space cannot be bigger than 5x7. Strange but true and it will fix the reboot and shut down issue.
I've been trying out a New Home, Janome 641 for my granddaughter. It will only sew backwards.
A new old machine for you I assume. For older mechanical only machines, reverse stitch is an exaggerated long stitch length that changes the angle and contact time of fabric to the feed dogs. Try setting stitch length to minimum and straight stitch. Check feed dog up/down is functional (if featured). It could also be the reverse linkage is simply stuck and the machine is in need of a thorough clean/lube.I looked for a manual but so far have not found. I'll append if I find.
