There is hope to recover from semiconductor problems such as condesation or overheating. You have to play cd as long as possible, let the unit cool down. Then try dvd again. If works, keep standby power on, forever, to keep moisture out of your dvd/vcr combo.

try unplugging it for a few minutes then try it again or pick up a dvd lens cleaner disc

check leads if they are connect in the normal video slot on dvd player and chek the player settings what out pot it is on

ur surround sound is to much power for the dvd player it is pushing te power throw the dvd player
