My dvd player won't read dvd but it will read cd's

I've read from the advice of others that this problem might have to do with the (? imaging ?) components of the player, whereas reading the audio is still OK. I think elsewhere it has been advised to carefully clean the lens with alcohol on a Q-tip.

Instructions on how to burn from my insignia DVD

my Insignia is a different model (NS-drVCR) but I always use the "DUBBING" button on the remote (which is basically the tech-term for a Recording-Transfer). The screen-dialog then shows VHS Dubbing to DVD with quality options to choose. I'm not as familiar with going the other way (from DVD to VHS) but I know that mine can since I've done it once with a similar method, starting with the DUB-button.

I have a ns-dvd1 player,

Your DVD player has a dirty/damaged lens. Dust on the lens can seriously impair the proper operation of the lens. The solution? A CD/DVD lens cleaner with liquid(you can get one for as low as 10$). It will help you clean the dust off the lens so that it will start functioning normally again. Using it is simple. First insert the lens cleaner into the drive and press play. After it runs for a while, Take it out put the liquid on the brushes that pop out and run a wet clean.
If it still doesn't work after this, then the lens is probably out of alignment which can happen due to worn out mechanical parts, among other things. You will need to get the lens assembly repaired/replaced.

Let me know if you have more questions,
Sai.

After burning my DVD-R, I can not play it on my

Did you finalize the disc? How you do this will depend on whether you are using your computer or a standalone DVR. On XP, I had to tell my burning software to finalize the disc after burning. On Windows 7, I find it will finalize the disc on eject (until I changed that setting). Finalizing the disc is an option under right clicking when I have a disc in the drive.

On a standalone DVR, you should find an option to finalize the disc in the menus that let you write a title to the disc.

Without finalization, other dvd players will not be able to read the disc. You also need to make sure that the disc is compatible with each player (+/- R is not universal).

I hope this helps.

Just moved, after connecting to

Ok are u using a s-video cable? to connect from your dvd/vcr combo to our tv?
92baed5.jpg

if you are make sure that on these cables all the little bins are not bent
and that its connected all the way in on both the tv and the back of the player. Also just unplug the s-video cable if this is what your using from both the back of the player and tv, and replug it back.. also tweak the cord back and forth some, its possible it got damaged in the move. If this is what your using you may have to replace it.

If your using the Red, White, and Yellow Wires.. Make sure the yellow cable is all the way in, and not damaged on both ends. B4 you plug them into the back of your tv, or player.

But bad cables would explain why even after factory reset it still not working.

If this was helpful please mark this fixya. If you have any additional comments, or need more help please just leave a comment and don't rate this anything tell your happy and/or have given me a full change to help solve your issue.

Does not recognize the DVD and won't let me record

Try a lens cleaner for the DVD player. If this doesn't resolve the problem, your player may need repairs. Service can be obtained by returning to the retailer of purchase.

Broken screen

You may seek service by visiting the retailer of purchase. Unfortunately, a damaged screen isn't covered by the factory warranty, so repairs would be at your expense. Replacement parts are not available for consumer purchase for this unit.

Dvd will not load or play....it just says

If you know how, disassemble the dvd player and adjust a little screw on the laser head assembly, then try to play CD, if it doesn't read adjust some more till it reads. If it doesn't help, probably laser head assembly needs replacing, which is expansive, it would be easier to get a new dvd player.

Unable to load a dvd into the insignia dvd player.

There is a belt inside the unit driven by a motor. The belt may have broke or is slipping. This is what's used to open and close the door.

The television turns on and off my iteself.

Your neighbor would have to be very close for thier remote to affect your set, most remotes wont work past 20 feet, plus they dont pass through walls (or windows unless they are right outside). You might want to check and make sure the "timer" is not set to go off and on.
