My dell latitude D820 lap top just stopped decodeing dvds
To change the Region code on your DVD player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVD drive and click Properties then click on DVD Region. You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have been made. NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the 4th change. If you want to play DVDs from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the player will be a piece of junk. The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software (Passkey for DVD) that allows you to play DVDs from any region and Passkey for Blu-ray that allows you to play Blu-rays from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free From: -

Can i get to the
No. you can call the company to purchase a replacement
1-877-467-4289
if you don't want to do that, the best universal remotes i have foudn are the One-for-All series. They support about everything that is out there and they are cost effective.

Remote did not work, ordered
It's normal for that light to not come on. If you have tried two different remotes, and new batteries then this confirms that the actual I/R receiver on the player has failed. It is fairly common for this to happen actually. Unfortunately no remote will work with this player in that case. It is possible to replace the I/R receiver but it is very difficult to do yourself, and expensive to have done. At that point you would be much better off just replacing the whole device.
So sorry about that, but it definitely sounds like your infared port has failed.
Thanks
Tim

I am trying to take 3 homemade movies in windows
Hmm, when you say windows media player format, are they .wma files? Let me know what the exact format is and I can tell you what you need to use to do what you are looking for, it's definitely possible. Windows Media Player plays many types of files so I want to make sure.
Thanks

I AM TRYING TO HOOK
It will depend on the TV/DVD combo and the DVD player. Most TV/DVD combos can have another device attached but you will need to get the cable. Since you posted this under the Insignia IS-DVD1001, I'm not sure which TV or DVD player you have.
In general, look at the back of the TV and the DVD player and see what ports are on both (input on TV and output on the DVD player). If you have HDMI out on the DVD player and HDMI in on the TV, get an HDMI cable and use that; generally you do not need the most expensive cables available. The next best choice is Component video and A/V audio. One cable with three RCA plugs (red, blue and green) on both ends carries the video and a second cable with two RCA plugs (white and red) carries the audio. The third choice is composite video or S-video and the audio. (Composite video is usually designated by yellow and is again an RCA plug. S-video is like a large version of a PS2 (keyboard or mouse) connector. All of these cables are available at electronics stores, stores that sell cables or electronic accessories.
If the two do not have the same ports, you need an appropriate converter (or modulator if the input port is the coax port on the TV). You can find many of these at RadioShack or online.
I hope this helps.

The player just reads "disc error"
Hello,
If your DVD player keeps reading disc error, it simply means the player is unable to read.
The reason is that the lens of the player is weak and cannot play the disc.
The solution for you to completely replace the lens.
to replace the lens, get a replacement lens from an electronic shop,
get the appropriate screwdriver and unscrew the player,
open up the disc tray and carefully replace the lens,
ensure that you do not tamper with the panel of the player.
once the replacement is properly done,
couple back the player and test with a DVD disc.
take care
