After the basics, try dropping the camera on a carpeted area from about 2-3 feet. It worked for my Fuji A500 and 90% of the responders on the link. Everything on the web said it would cost ~$100 to fix. I was in the process of researching new cameras to buy and had nothing to lose by dropping it on the floor.
The error may be caused by debris in the zoom mechanism preventing it from working. Dropping the camera loosens the debris and voila!

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as
Picasa.

Language
here are some suggestions:
- do you know where to get to languages from?? if you do, go there and select every language till you get the right one.
- reset camera. if you don't know how to, look at instruction manual. there's usually a button somewhere to reset it. (this WON'T erase chip memory!!)
- go to your nearest computer store and ask them if my suggestions don't work.
Transferring Photos from the PC to the Camera
It isn't a good idea to do it. Your camera may have problems reading the pictures due to file incompatibility issues, but your frame will be able to read them.
The best way to fix this is to get a card reader and a seperate memory card for your frame (if thats what it uses).
Will you show me how to repair my camera please!
You can try to GENTLY force the lens back straight. Then turn off the camera and *** it tries to retract then give it some pressure from the front which can guide the gears back into place. Do not try any of that if you plan to take it somewhere to get it fixed. Only do it if this is your last resort.
Good Luck,
Caleb

Hello
The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the
probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.
Use
these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.
Firstly ,
try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.
Try holding the
shutter button while switching on the camera.
Look at the lens ,
and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then
try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).
Try gently
pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may
cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.
Another
way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and
then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to
not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and
down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the
camera is enough to get things going again.
Try hitting your
camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of
your hand.
Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair
center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to
replace the camera.
If it is still under warranty I would suggest
you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any
off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about
warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Xd picture card
Greetings FredericoIV,
A common fix for this issue is to use an external card reader, and reformat your card using your computer. Make sure you chose FAT format instead of FAT32 or NTFS.
I hope this helps.
Thank you,

Card problem
Hey abbytho,
The most common reason for this message is the memory card or the internal memory is not formatted. If you don't know how to do this the directions should be on page 75 of your manual. If this doesn't work try cleaning the contact area on your xD card with a soft dry cloth, and if this doesn't work you should have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. I have provided a link to your camera manual below.
