OPPS! Have you tried putting the old board back to see what you have?

replace the c21 and c22 capacitors on the power supply. they are both 1500uf, 16 v. When you pull the back of the set, youll notice that they will be slightly bulging. be sure to order quality ones (105 degree, and reputable brand). Radio shack won't have them, so you'll need to probably go online. The caps are around $1 each. order a couple extra just in case. Digikey.com sells them. I recommend you use a low watt soldering iron (15 watt), desoldering braid and take your time.

I had the exact same problem with my set 6 months ago. Had the repairman look at it and it ended up being a faulty/weak power source. He told me that he could either work on the power source himself or just buy a new one. New ones are very expensive and hard to come by, but he was able to fix the existing one. Got the whole thing fixed for something around $350 to $400. Pretty steep and made me consider buying a new one, but I didn't. And now its on the blink again, so you might consider that.

While this isnt an exact fix at work, you will at least be able to view your tv. We have one at work that would do nothing when you hit the power on button, just the usual geen led flashing. We pulled the cover off and found the bulging caps, more than likely from brown outs. But we also found that none were holding a charge. So we held the power button on for at least five min, after the led would stay on for about 30 sec and then turn off. We kept hitting the power button and the screen would try to come on. It finally did. After it did come one we can power on and power off aslong as we dont turn it off for more than 10 min. After 10 min of it being off we have hold down power button again and start the whole process again. So the main problem i believe is the caps arent holding a charge, to be able to kick the high voltage circuit on. We did not replace any caps but if we do end up changing parts will post what was changed and cost. Hope this helps

Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Please post back what you find. If the tech installed a used power supply, it may be bad also. 3 years are typical for capacitors to go bad.

ONE: The protection circuit has taken over the power managment of the set. When you unplug it for a couple of hours or so and plug it back in it will start up because the circuits have all been reset (unplugging the power cord is a reset operation.)

TWO: The protection circuit goes into action whenever it detects an excessive amount of current being drawn from one of the 10 sections of the tv circuitry.

THREE: When it won't turn on it is because the protection circuit has captured the ON function and holds the power relay OFF until it is reset.

FOUR: So, the problem area could be any one of the 10 or so sections of the tv. The most common of which is the high voltage section because it uses the greatest amount of power. If so, this could be very expensive.

FIVE: On the other hand, it could be one of the other sections and a small part such as a resistor or capacitor shorting down. In which case the cost of repair may be only a few dollars.

SIX: However, you will need a tv tech to come to the home and diagnose the set because we cannot tell where the failure is without a hands-on diagnosis by one who knows how to test the circuit sections.

SEVEN: Usually a shop will send out a tech who will do a quick check and tell you what is wrong with the set and how much the repair cost is going to be. A house call such as this will cost from $40 to $80 depending on the distance and the price they set. I suggest you call a few shops and get their best response before deciding which one to employ.

I had the same problem...first it would take two or more power button presses to get the tv to turn on. Finally it would not turn on. It was the power supply and was easy to replace.

hello, you will need to locate a service manual for it.
cd or downloaded it costs a few dollars but it is worth it.
if your going to open it might as well know what to check for.
you need it to service your set.
not processing signal, menu not displaying,
sound like internal board issues.

Ultimately repairing the screen is up to you, LCD's are not cheap.

If you decide not to repair it, I'd be interested in the boards off yours.

This thing needs to go to a state attorney general if Viewsonic isn't even will to provide parts for these pathetic LCD TVs.

it could be your flux capacitor is out. you might need to plug it in goto menus and check to see if ur runnin 21 gigawatts if not leave it plugged in and off for two days and it should refresh it
