That problem could be on the power supply...


if the power supply output is having voltage drop the problem could be the capacitors...some bad capacitors have bulged on the top and bottom.some are not!!!

try to look at the power supply board if have leak/bulged on the top that is better..just replaced it with the same type,ratings and value..

also try to re-solder the power supply board before you go to the major troubleshoot..

if the problem persist just add a comment..

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. Look for 5vdc, 12vdc, and 24dvc. You can look at the sample of the power supply board, the picture with the soldering side has labelling of what you should have on the output of the power supply, yours may be labeled on the top side of the board, there are high voltage on the board so you must be real careful, if you are not sure, let the professional handle it.

Yes, unfortunately, Televisions now a days are using cheap capacitors. They blow after about five years. You can do a visual and see if any of the capacitors are leaking or damaged. If you know how to solder, you can replace them yourself. If not, I would recommend you take it to a television repair center in your area. I have the exact TV and had the exact same problems. It is the light engine with color wheel that needs to be replaced, and they are VERY hard to come by for this model. Our repairman has had our TV for 5 months and still cannot locate a vendor that carries the part. He said according to Toshiba, the part has been discontinued. If you happen to find one, please post. I'll do the same.

Try unplugging and waiting about 2 min. Then retry. There is a self protection circuit which is what is stopping the unit from coming on, but it can be triggered by many things. [Units this old are famous for the capacitors (electrolyte dries out and then they blow), but that is just the most common problem. I would look the capacitors over and see if they give any indication of being "blown" (discoloring, etc.) and replace them if they do.

Unfortunately the screen has been damaged beyond repair & will need to be replaced. The cost a new screen of this size will be almost he same as buying a new TV. As it was accidental damage & if you have home contents insurence try to make a claim for the damage.
