Maytag refrigerator icemaker quit making ice.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
The icemaker is 110v
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking or no water at icemaker or door either one, then the valve at the rear bottom of ref needs replacing
First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also if it is getting drinking water to the door but not to the icemaker (or vice versa) Then you need to replace
the water valve at the bottom rear of the fridge. It is a double valve and one side is not working
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

How can I tell if my relay compressor is going

If the compressor relay is going bad you will hear a clicking sound at the compressor and poor cooling in the refrigerator.
You can replace the relay yourself.

Maytag French Door MFF2557HEQ with

Hi,

Take off the back panel in the freezer. 1/4" screws. Use a nut driver or ratchet and socket with an extension.
2. Behind the frost is the evaporator and the defrost heaters. One heater in the middle and one at the bottom. They are glass tubes. If you can see the bottom heater that is great. If not use a hair dryer and defrost only the very bottom to expose the lower heater only.
3. Now in the refrigerator section at the top where the controls are, take off the long plastic piece to expose the timer. The timer should be on the right hand side and have a little circle that is slotted. Get a flat screwdriver and turn that timer slowly clockwise just until it clicks and the refrigerator turns off. This will put it into defrost.
4. Now look at that heater that you exposed and see if it glows and gets hot. If it does, then the timer is bad.
5. If the heater doesn't come on then go ahead and defrost the rest of the evaporator with the hair dryer. This will take a little while. Don't poke at the evaporator!!!
6. Once totally defrosted look at both heaters. They should look like clear glass and see a silver coil running through them. If they look discolored at all then the heaters are bad. The heaters come as a complete assembly with the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator.
7. If the heaters look okay the only way to know for sure if they are bad is to check continuity with a meter on the plug at the end of their wiring harness. If you can check that then you can splice in a new defrost thermostat to solve the problem. However the best thing to do is replace the heaters and defrost thermostat . It is easy to install.
Follow these steps and this will solve your problem.

Changed the water filter and the ice maker quit

  • Sounds like you need to bleed the air out of the water line. everytime you change the filter you should do this.
  1. Take a glass under the water dispenser. There is a water tank that needs to fill up with around a gallon of water and then it will come up into the water dispenser.
  2. Take a glass and press for water and when water starts to come out of the dispenser fill the glass up and then dump it and fill the glass up again.
  3. This will bleed the lines of all air. If you don't do this water will not travel to the icemaker either.
  • Please note that the jug that holds the water you can pull the fruit and vegetable doors out and look in the back and down and you can see the jug. Sometimes if you have the refrigerator up a little cold the water will freeze and a little warming up will make it flow again.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

walls should be clear of anything that will

obstruct removal of back panel.

1. Loosen screws that mount icemaker to freezer

compartment walls.

2. Pull icemaker gently away from wall of compartment.

As you do so, work fill cup free of fill tube. Unplug

icemaker electrical connector and remove icemaker

from unit.

3. (Pull out Drawer only) Loosen and remove screws

that hold 2 basket glides in place at left and right

sides of compartment.

4. If unit has no icemaker pry with flatblade icemaker

connection cover. Remove cover.

5. Remove hex head screws that hold back panel and

Defrost Terminator (Thermostat)

1. Terminator is fastened to evaporator tubing with a

spring clip.

2. Snap terminator off tubing and cut wires to terminator.
3. Remove terminator from unit.

That is word for word.

See parts list diagram here:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5170924&diagram_id=28480593#d28480593

This may help with screws but the defrost thermostat is item 32 and not shown on the diagram. Once you hav ethe access panel off loof fok the thermostat. It will have 2 wires and tough metal clip on it.

My refrigerator works only for a few days and then

Hi eric_langdon,

This complaint is usually the result of a defrost problem. The first thing to check in this case is the freezer area. Look at the back panel inside the freezer. If you notice frost covering the back panel, you have defrost problem. You need to replace the defrost thermostat behind the panel on the coil.

If the problem is not a defrost issue you may have a problem with the damper that goes between the freezer and fridge compartments. This is usually an adjustable "flap" that opens to allow cold air from the freezer to enter the fresh food side. Most top freezer and certain side x side refrigerators have an adjustable flap. That means its set open at a certain point and doesn't open and close when the machine runs.

Most newer side by sides and bottom freezer refrigerators have an electric damper that opens and closes as the machine runs. These are machines that have separate thermostats for the freezer. The machine can call for cold inside the freezer without affecting the fridge side temp by keeping the damper closed.

To test this will require you to locate the damper assembly. Once you find the damper on your machine, make sure the thermostat is on and you hear the freezer fan running. Normally at this point you can feel the air coming through the vents on the damper. Certain models will close the damper when the fridge door is open. So you will have to hold in the light switch or tape it so the machine thinks the door is closed. After you do that and you still don't feel air, remove the damper cover. Check to see if the damper door is closed. If the door is closed, make sure it isn't froze shut. Manually open the door with your fingers to make sure it can move freely. If it can move freely then replace the damper. Sometimes some insulation or foam can fall into the path of the damper and cause it to jam. If you look inside the damper and it's open but you don't feel air, check your evaporator freezer fan.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Maytag MFD2560hes About 5 years old

Hi

If refrigerator is not cooling properly it can be due to a defrost timer, which is causing the fridge to go into defrost cycle. Usually it takes 45-60 minutes for refrigerator to come out of defrost cycle. If the timer is bad then it will not come out of defrost cycle and can result in this kind of issues. It can also occur due to defrost thermostat, it allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees. This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold temperature to turn it on. The defrost thermostat is snapped onto the top portion of the evaporator. The thermostat sends temperature information to the processor. The defrost heater must be replaced when replacing the thermostat.
1. Remove the lower fan duct work from the evaporator cover.
2. Remove the 1/4-in. evaporator cover screws and remove the evaporator cover.
3. Disconnect the defrost thermostat wiring connector.
4. Remove the defrost thermostat from the evaporator.

Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

My maytag fridge isn't producing ice model #

see if the ice is frozen, there are three screws holding the ice maker in, two on top and one on bottom. The two top screws are teardrop screws and don't need to come all the way out. The bottom screw does need to come out. The electrical connection is a squeeze type and the unit should come out. Clean it out and re- insatll to see if that helps.

My maytag MFD2560 wont dispense

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. As you press a glass against the actuation arm listen for a micro-switch click. If you have a click the most likely suspect is a coil on the inlet water valve. The inlet water valve is NOT repairable. It must be replaced. If you do not hear a click you will have to replace the micro-switch in the dispenser area.
The inlet water valve is item 10 of this link:

Detailed view:

The micro-switch is item 9 this link:
