You will need a new lcd screen. Try looking on ebay for one

If you pull off the top part where the speakers are above the key board your monitor might be unplugged. i had the same problem with one

You either have a bad stick of RAM or a bad motherboard.

You can try swapping the RAM , it is in an access port on the bottom of the computer.

If that doesnt do it , you need a new motherboard. Best bet in that case is to upgrade.

with AC power cord plugged in
do a virus scan
in add/remove uninstall any programs you no longer use.

then do a disk defrag

whn you ran with xp did you have AC power plugged in

the video/graphics card could be gone
using another monitor can you get it to boot in safemode
also can she borrow a cd from anyone

when did you notice this started? it may have taken a windows update and/or a security fix. If you have windows updates set to auto, it may well have taken an update and no longer have the feature, look on the toshiba web site and see if there is any info on the specific problem you are having. I would do it for you but I am with a couplle guys who are "down" and they need to get back up, so do a search on the toshiba site with what you described, "notebook touchpad, no longer functions", also try the msft website. good luck and if you cant get it straightned out, ask for me tomorrow, and we can go step by step, peace

Hi, I recommend to you to reinstall the operating system with the disc of recovery that accompanies your equipment, it is possible that the this corrupt operating system and because of it the machine freezes.

Given the fact that you are able to get a picture on another monitor obviously means there is not a driver problem. Rather it is without doubt a hardware problem inside of your LCD. Inside the LCD there are two "inverters" that supply power. If one of them went out then you would not get any picture. This is not something you are able to repair yourself because of electrical danger. I do not believe you will have to replace the LCD but I would recommend taking it in to be repaired. If they recommend it be replaced then ask them to show you "exactly" what the is the problem. Inverters can be replaced so no need to replace the monitor.

Save your self a lot of reading, do this first.

Yes, a new Hard Drive is not parititioned or formatted so you will need the start up disc to partition and format the new hard drive for it to work

If your screen flickers when you move the screen it might just be a loose cable connection. There is usually a panel right above the keyboard that will pop off fairly easy. Make sure all of the cables are seated well.

I removed the hard disk and then that way the system recognized the CD drive with the Windows installation CD inserted.

When the installation wizard started, I inserted the hard disk on its place and then it could be formatted and the windows and drivers installation ended successfully.

The odd part is that the M45-S355 shuts down after five to ten minutes of use. It does not happen in safe mode. Should this have to be with the processor´s fan?
