you might want to try restarting the computer and as soon as you see the Toshiba logo on the screen start pressing F1. if that doesn't work try again and this time press F8. look for an option that says something like restore this computer. im not sure this model has a recovery partition. if it doesn't you'll probably need to get your hands on a Windows XP disk. you could ask a friend with a dell computer they may have their disk. or you could try a flea market. but before you erase your computer you need to make sure you have your coa sticker on the compter still. it looks like the sample im providing. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

How can i restore my Toshiba A85 Satellite Laptop

Without the recovery disks you will pretty much need to find someone with an OS Disk to reload your laptop. If you know someone with a dell computer they might have a disk you can borrow and reload your laptop that way. I have found it Dell disks to be alot more easier to use when reloading a different makers computer. You will also need to use another computer to download the drivers for your toshiba onto a stick drive so you can be up and running.

Or you can take it into a repair shop and have them do the work which should only cost around an hours worth of labor.

Best of luck..

You can find them here:

One key fell off

You should be able to place it on the retainer and press it on, you may need to move it around a bit. If it just flat won't snap back on, check the retainer to make sure that the pins that fit into the clips on the back of the key aren't bent or broken, and check the clips on the key to see if the sides are bent or broken. If the pins or sides of the clips are bent, take a small flathead screwdriver and straighten them. If they're broken it will need to be replaced.

How do I change a keyboard on a satellite A85-S107 laptop?

1. Take out the battery and AC adapter, unplugged from the wall, enusre the laptop is fully powered off.2. Remove those screws with a T-8 or Phillips screwdriver.3. Turn the laptop back over and open it up. Check and see if the Toshiba Satellite A85-S107 keyboard is tucked under any plastic pieces. If so, find them if those plastic pieces are screwed into anything, and unfasten them as well. If not, it probably uses clamps that can easily be removed.4. Remove the plastic pieces carefully.5. Unscrew any screws at the top (if necessary) and remove the keyboard itself from top to bottom. You'll notice that the keyboard is connected with a thin, but wide, data cable to the system board at the bottom.6. Disconnect the data cable attachment of the keyboard which will sever all the remaining attachments of the laptop keyboard with the laptop computer motherboard. To remove this cable, you have to just carefully pull it out from the socket to which it is attached. Then you can lift out the entire keyboard out of the laptop.7. Take the new Toshiba Satellite A85-S107 keyboard out of the plastic and place it inside with the right orientation, attach the data cable.8. Refasten the keyboard in place at the top.9. If you had to remove any plastic pieces, carefully snap them back in and replace any screws you had to remove.10. Turn the laptop over and replace all of the keyboard screws.11. Put the laptop battery back in place and switch it on to check Toshiba Satellite A85-S107 keyboard functionality. If everything has gone according to plan, you should be ready to type away!

Bios does not detect cd

I have a Toshiba Satellite L355D that would not detect the CD Rom in the BIOS although the Rom appeared to powered up and running. I traced the problem to a ribbon cable connector that was between the jack the CD Rom plugged into and the jack on the mother board. The ribbon cable plug at the MB had backed out and was only making the power connections to the Rom making the Rom appear to be operating.
