Why i cannot scan 1 digit number
Did you make the barcodes using Code 39 or 3 of 9? If so, the scanner defaults to reading between 2 and 55 character Code 39 barcodes. Go to the Motorola Solutions support portal and search for Article ADC-00404
portal motorolasolutions com. Print the article and scan the Code 39 Any Length barcode. Once this is done the scanner will read all Code 39 barcodes.
My ls4278 is not lighting.
The most unlikely scenario is that all the bases are defective. If you power your PC off every night, you should purchase a power supply so the scanners can continuously charge. Another issue may be that you need new batteries (also unlikely if they stopped working at the same time). Also try swapping scanners and bases (one scanner from one base and place it with another base) make sure you firmly place the bottom of the scanner in the base to verify there is a good connection with the charging pins. 3 Beeps after trying to scan
If you are receiving three quick beeps (all the same tone) before a scan the battery is low. If the scanner is more than two years old the battery may need to be reconditioned. It is recommended the battery be reconditioned once a year. The latest revision of the LS4278 manual is here:

Print page 28 of 414 and scan the Battery Recondition barcode. The scanner will discharge the battery then charge it up again. It goes through this two times so you need to leave it on the charger a while for this process to complete. Hopefully this will resolve your issue. If not, you may need a new battery.
If the beeps are low, medium, high the procedure above still may work, but you might want to call Motorola for assistance. Sometimes hearing the beeps helps to diagnose the problem.
Will not pair with android device, android tells me to enter code into the scanner.

My canner ls4278 is making a sound and turnin red when i scan
It could be the scanner is not paired to the cradle. The scanner will be once for the barcode and then four times for the communication error. Make sure the cradle has power; it will pull power from a USB port. Scan the pairing barcode on top of the cradle. The scanner will give a high low high low beep and then shortly after give a short low short high beep indicating the radios have paired. If the scanner still beeps four times after doing this, the host type may not be set. If connecting USB scan HID Keyboard from the LS4278 Product Reference Guide.
LS4278 no laser
There are three possibilities I can think of assuming this is not a brand new scanner:
1. The LS4278 is faulty - which given Symbols quality I would say it is normally not the case unless th scanner has been dropped or otherwise damaged.
2. The cradle is not charging the scanner. You may wish to try another cradle - one that you know is charging aother scanner. After a few minutes you should be able to see the laser.
3. The battery in the scanner either needs a recondition (see product reference guide), or needs replacement.
Why does my LS 4278 scanner beep when cradled?
It sounds like the power is dropping along the 15 foot length of the cable. You could try connecting a power supply to the cradle and should not hear those beeps any more. The part number of the power supply is PWRS-14000-253R. All of this assumes you are using the STB4278 or CR0078-SC cradle to connect. If you have a CR0078-P cradle it needs a different power supply.
Wont scan
The scanner is not connected to the cradle. Scan the pairing barcode on top of the cradle.
