It located underneath accessed from the back of the fridge behind the cardboard cover.

Make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer is running also. See if the evaporator coils are iced up a lot. The ice will block the flow of air from the fan. The fan and coil is located in the freezer behind the back cover. If it's iced badly, there is a auto defrost problem. The defrost system consists of the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, and the defrost timer or adaptive defrost control on newer models.

The lower hinge on each door may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this assist in closing the door. If it’s wore out and doesn’t work the door may not seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if it rises up when opened.

Leave the door shut and let the magnetic gasket hold the door in place. Put something between the bottom of the door and the floor to hold it in case it slips.
Remove the bracket holding the pin and hinge assembly taking note of order of removal of parts. Slide new cams on. You probably need two.

The refrigerator side does not keep contents cold.

Check the fan that moves air to the refrigerator side to see if it is working. You may have to listen closely as you open the door as some of then shut down when the door is opened. Also defrost you refrigerator for 24 hours. You may get water on the floor as it defrosts if it is really bad. Then restart the refrigerator and check that the fan is working and it is cooling.

Buzzing every three minutes from freezer and it

Compressor won't start. Either a problem with start device or a stuck compressor. Expect the fridge side to get warm soon also.
For compressor replacement you definitely need a professional to do the job. The start device is not too hard to replace by yourself.

Start device part number is either 12002784 (if first two digits of fridge serial number are 10 to 27) or 12002794 (for series 28 and above, including letters). Instructions are enclosed with both parts.
If you order from that site, use "New10" coupon for 10% off.
Good luck!

My fridge sounds like an airplane

Blade of one of the fans caught on something; If the sound is from the freezer section - either get to the fan and clean it mechanically from ice or turn the fridge off for at least 12 hours. If the sound does not go away or returns - there is a reason for ice accumulation, call the pros ;)

If the sound is from the back and underneath - check the fan next to compressor. It may catch on the shroud. Adjust as necessary.

Main compartment not cold at

My "expert" was very knowledgeable and stepped me through diagnosis of what was wrong. It turned out to be an adaptive defroster assembly. I followed the instructions that other users had listed for the same part. Took me a little while (2 hours) to figure out how to get all the part disassembled with the right tools, but I am a girl (haha). Got the part replaced, had to wait about 18 hours to see if the main compartment got cold again, but wouldn't you know it, the next morning I had ice cold milk. Yeah!! With the $20 Fixya fee and the $75 part, I fixed the refrigerator for under $100. Very proud of myself. Just got laid off, maybe will become an appliance technician for my next career!!

REFIG WONT COOL FREEZER WORKS

As a general condition of what you describe for almost any refrigerator...
check to see if the small circulation fan inside the freezer compartment is working. It should be running and circulating the cold air in the freezer compartment as well as sending some cold air over to the other side where normal food is kept. You may need to replace the fan motor which is a common fault with refrigerators. You may hear it squeel a noise if it still turns the fan blades or it may be quiet and not run at all.
Also most units have adjustable baffles to control the air that goes to the other side see that they are set to allow lots of air circulate. Also...there are on some units a knob that controls the "balance" of air...see that it is adjusted properly.

I have a maytag side by side refrigerator which

Hi, when you plug this refridgerator back in leave it for a few days and if you have the same problem it's going to be the defrost system. I will also assume you have the ability to repair this yourself. This is going to be one of three problems with your refridgerator, 1st thing to do is remove shelfs and panel in the back of the freezer...you should see ice build up on the evaporator...don't worry get a hair dryer and melt the ice. Next locate the wires for the heater...using a multi meter test the heater for condinuity...if the heater is bad replace it, If the heater is good replace the defrost thermostat..the stat normally is a barrel looking part clipped onto the evaporator pipe. The last possible problem could be the evaporator fan, have you heard the fan running in the past few hours?..if you are not sure pull the panel out to where you can see fan and watch it over an hour to see if it turns. I have included links with pictures of what the parts you need to check are: http://romulusappliance.com/manufacturers/maytag/refrigerators/575432.JPG defrost stat http://www.hotekalliance.com/UploadFiles/2008627111553382.jpg heaters http://www.applianceblog.com/archives/EvapMotor1018185.jpg evap fan. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. If you decide to get a repair guy in should not cost you any more then $120 - $200 depending on make/model/problem Good luck! P.s Please don't forget to rate my solution Thanks! Mike

Maytag fridge has constant running water sound

you hear a constant running water sound? look in your manual under "normal operating sounds". it explains all of the sounds. it sounds like you're hearing the refrigerant going thru your evap. coil located behind the rear frzr panel. you unit goes into the defrost cycle roughly every 8hrs and water drip down into the condensate pan un the refrig.
