When on cool mode, the

It sounds like the compressor is turning off cause of high pressure. check the coil that the exhaust hose connects to, if dirty clean it. If the fan is not blowing enough air through the coil the unit will build up high side pressure and cut out, but will turn back on when pressure drops. If that dont help, maybe the fan motor is bad or needs taken apart and oiled. But if the fan is running fine ---------If the compressor attempts to start but shuts off very quickly, the compressor could be bad. Again recharging the Freon is possible, but the cost for that recharging is approx the cost of new compressor. So its always advisable to get compressor replaced.Because new compressor has warranty for few years.---------- So first clean the coils, clean the fan.And then see if its still doing it.------ If it still does, then there is a run capacitor in line with the fan. This capacitor is easy to replace and not very costly.First try replacing this run capacitor and see if it makes any difference to the problem. If not then compressor is the problem.------ ------------- for ordering parts click this link:--- http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/airconditioners/maytag/m6p09s2a.html ----------- For parts not available, you will have to order from maytag service center.------

Bought unit second hand.

Usually when you buy units such as airconditioners or refrigerators there are 2 things which should be considered. After moving these units around you are expected to allow the gas inside the unit settle for a period after being moved. If the gas does not settle after being moved the unit will not cool or heat up. The second possible problem is the fact that when most of these units are to be moved around the gas in the system are usually removed from the unit therefore you need an expert to help you refill the gas in the unit to enable it function properly. Check these 2 options and let me know how the system responds after both options have been checked.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

Maytag air conditioner M6POs2A running very

It sounds to me like the compressor is about done.If it has service valves on it you can have the pressures tested and see where they are at.If it has a high pressure charge on it this can make the compresssor hard to start and noisy.
You didn't say anything about approximate age of this a/c. If it is very old I would not spend much money on it. If the compressor needs replaced it could run you $400.00-600.00 To replace and for that much I would buy a new one so you know what you have. Hope this helps and thank you.

I have a window air

The compressor is controlled by a contactor (relay) the relay is stuck (contacts burned or if a solid state relay the "smoke has leaked out" :) it may require a control board change if it is a modern unit

Frank, refrigerant is what it needs, but it should be done by a pro. Unless you have experience with this sort of thing, it's not a DIY project,

The water empty indicator keeps

I am NOT aquainted with the Maytag Portable AC..... But There has to been a sensor that tells the unit that the water bin is full...... If there is any moisture on the sensor and touching a ground probe then even though the bin is empty the sensor is still making a connection to ground. If you can trace out the wire that goes to the sensor you can unplug it from the board till it dries out or you replace it..... Only if you do make sure you empty the bin often or you will have water every where because the unit won't shut off if the water bin is full..... Hope this helps

Mam, you don't put any water in it. This A/C Unit has a dehumidifier in it, that takes humidity/water out of the household air, which helps make the room cooler.

A/c seems not to working

Could be several factors. Let me start by saying the unit you have should cool a room that totals around 450 square feet (Approx.).

If you do not know your rooms square footage just multiply the width of the room x the length of the room.

(e.g. 20' x 10' = 200 SF)

The above 450 SF is for a room with typical 8' ceilings. This is also a "Rule-Of-Thumb" measurement, as windows, doors, insulation, and air leakages (heat gain) also play a role in calculation of heat loads. But this will get you close....

If the room is larger than 450 S.F. in size then the unit is too small for this size room.

A rule of tumb for sizing is: every 600 square feet requires a ton (or 12,000 BTU) of cooling. Again, without doing a proper load calculation on the room or area being cooled, it is hard to be exact.

The other possibility is the unit is not operating as it should due to mechanical or other issues. This is hard to specify. COuld be refrigerant levels are low, coils dirty, or filter dirty.

Aur conditioner goes from cold

If the compressor is running and you are not getting the cold air to blow or the cooling pipes are not cold after a good begining then it is possible that there is low gas pressure.
If so refill gas and check for proper gas pressure.
However if the compressor is shutting down after blowing cold then the pressure limit switch might be faulty and is acting in advance. try to overide to check the running of the comrpessor.
Also if the thermostat is also detecting wrong or is malfunctioning ,the same faults can be seen.
So check in this order and confirm..

I need a condenser fan blade for a Maytag M6P09D2A

If you have the old blade, measure the diameter, width of the wheel, diameter of the shaft hole and the number of blades or blades per inch. Go to www.uri.com and see if you can' find a match. If not, e-mail them or look to see if there is a local branch near you.
