Removing Timer Knob on Maytag MDE7400AYW dryer

Can anyone help me? I have a Maytag Atlantis that my parents just gave me and my wife. Unfortunately, they accidently removed the model number sticker in the door area. I need to buy a new timer but no one can find which timer to get without the model number. Via the internet, I think I narrowed it down to either the MDE7400AYQ or the MDE7400AYW....but they both look identical to me. Can anyone tell me what the difference between the two is so I can go get the part?

Dryer runs, tumbles clothes, but does not heat

PSUinNC The first thing you have to do is to check in what position is the temperature switch . If the temperature switch is in the "air fluff" position, then the heater will stay "off". If this is not an issue, reset the circuit breaker. The motor needs only 120V to run, but the heater needs 240V and if one of legs is missing, the dryer would not heat. If it did not solve the problem, you have to perform full diagnosis. You will need some simple hand tools and a meter to check a continuity. If you are fillng you can handle it, let me know and I'll give you the step by step instructions. Gendos...post back

Maytag Atlantis Dryer not heating up

Best guess is that one of the two solenoid coils on the gas valve is faulty, one has two connections and the other has three. Always replace BOTH solenoids even if only one has failed.

The dryer does not give heat

Hello there:
Investigate these five areas if your dryer is not heating up:

Proper Voltage

If your dryer won't heat up, it's possible that it is not being supplied with the proper voltage. Here are three ways to make sure power is getting to your dryer: First, make sure your dryer is plugged in. Next, check the circuit breaker panel to make sure all the circuit breakers are in the correct positions. Finally, check to make sure no fuses in your fuse panel are blown. Any of these could explain why power is not getting to your dryer.

8574d88.jpg Heating Element

It is possible that your dryer isn't heating because its heating element is defective. Heating elements are irrepairable. If yours has ceased to function properly, you will have to replace it. Open your dryer's cabinet and locate the heating element so that you can test it.
d5b5af3.jpg Thermal Fuse

Another possible cause for a dryer not heating up could be attributed to a faulty thermal fuse. Once a dryer's thermal fuse has blown, it is no longer of any use. If your dryer's fuse is blown, you will have to replace it. Open up your dryer's cabinet and locate its thermal fuse so that you can test it.
77d6bd4.jpg Thermostat

If any of your dryer's thermostats have become defective, they could be the reason that your dryer is not heating. Open up your dryer's cabinet and test each of your dryer's thermostats. If any are faulty, replace them.
dryer_timer.jpg Timer motor

A defective timer motor could also cause your dryer to not heat up. Test your dryer's timer motor. If it is no longer functioning as it should, replace either the entire motor assembly, or just its motor.

Maytag atlantis will not turn off

This is not the solution to your exact problem but for those looking for why there timer will not advance and why it keeps running: The usual problem is not the timer but the mosture sensor.

1: Check the mosture sensor light/indicator. If is still shows some mosture or flashes even when the items are dry, you have a mosture sensor problem, probably not a timer issue - luck you.

2: Check if the timer will advance and the dryer will turn off when you have it in the TIMED mode (i.e. 10mins - NOT the more/less dry modes.) If so, then it is indeed a sensor problem.

2: Check that the wires to the mosture sensor have not fallen off (as in my case - a simple repair). The senor is usually two metal bars somewhere near the front part of the inside of your dryer. You may have to take off the door and the front pannel (be sure to unplug the dryer first) to get at the two wires to clip on to the sensor. Clean any lint and make sure they are conneted. If well connected then replace the sensor ($15-$20 and very easy to do).
