Just installed a new memory card in my powershot A430 and the camera says memory card error, card is locked. how do I unlock?

What type and size memory card? The A430 works with SD cards. It won't work with SDHC cards.SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I`ve bought a 4GB memory

The Canon A430 uses MMC and SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

How do I download from camera to computer

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

Hello

Thank you for using FIXYA!!!

This is a suggestion. If you do not feel comfortable trying it, you will need to take the unit to your nearest service centre. Feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

The problem might be that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Here's the support site url for your camera:-

http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a430#DriversAndSoftware (this is for XP)

I see that there are no firmware upgrades so can only think of one thing which may help.
It may have failed but using the menu options on your camera try a reset. It may sort things out.

If you're not sure how to get there, you should be able to download a manual from there to guide you.

If it has had it, and it is quite old, you can try for a second hand camera (ebay or high street) But nearly all new budget digital cameras should meet your needs, but here's a url to a review site:-

http://www.steves-digicams.com/

Failing that, go for a brand you know like Canon, Sony, Fuji, Nikon etc.

Finally, My wife just got a Fuji finepix Av120, it should be about $60 in America, its a 12MPix camera and has loads of features including a "Panaromic Photo" feature, straight forward to use and score 84% in a professional review.

Turn camera on error message keeps popping up

Some problem with the lens.
Look at the lens as it comes out, and listen as well. If it does not come out at all, then internal problems exist.
If there are noises, problems are inside.
If the lens comes out but is not at a straight angle, you may be able to fix it by carefully pulling on it as it extends.

If nothing else, sell it on Ebay as a repair camera.
List it like this:

Sometimes the internal settings can affect this.
Go to the menus.
Then find a setting which is something like:
Return to factory settings or,
Reset all to Default or,
Many of these point and shoot Canons have settings:
func. set: Make sure it is not set to some setting for inside, florescent, etc. These will affect the bright settings.
Also, if there is no reset for default factory settings, then go through all the menus, including the ones in the Func. Set. -- Usually in the "joy-stick" center.

When i power up camera,

CCD (Charge Coupled Device): one of the two main types of image sensors used in digital cameras. Some symptoms of a defective CCD include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card. A CCD problem would explain the lines on your pictures and the lines on the LCD (since the CCD is used to feed the live image).

If seen on both your pc monitor as well as the camera's LCD then it's likely a CCD issue and it's no wonder that it will be more expensive than buying a new digicam. This is why you need to be exceptionally careful when taking care of your camera since most are uber sensitive to being damaged by the slightest miss-handling.

When a picture is taken, the CCD is struck by light coming through the camera's lens. Each of the thousands or millions of tiny pixels that make up the CCD convert this light into electrons. The number of electrons, usually described as the pixel's accumulated charge, is measured, then converted to a digital value. This last step occurs outside the CCD, in a camera component called an analog-to-digital converter.

In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own; check this article for additional details: Bad CCDs

Hope helps.

My camera says change batteries even after i put

It may sound ridiculous, but the new batteries may not have a sufficient charge or be turned the right way. Check the positive and negative terminals and ensure they are placed correctly.

Canon Powershop A430 Digital Camera wont work with

Hi,
If the camera has a lens that extends when you power-on, it may have failed to park completely when power went off, due to the weak battery.

Gently press on the front of the lens barrel to attempt to seat the lens.
Then (with a good battery) turn-on the camera.

If you are currently using the NiMH AA rechargeable batteries, I would suggest you try standard Alkaline AA batteries. They have a bit more voltage than the NiMH and it might make a difference in this case.

If that does not work, you should phone Canon Service and see if they have any suggestions.
I am sure they have encountered this problem before.

Hope this helps,
