when taking photos..there are some horizontal lines appearing in the photo..and when shooting at super macro mode..images appears black wit weird colors..what is the problem? thnx
have opened my camera. (it was useless anyway, right?) GUess what I found: in the lens-assembly there is a ribbon cable that controls the two solenoids, one of the shutter, one of the diafragm (or what it's called). This one is broken, the electric circuits are discontinued and so there is no control. It seems to be a design error since it broke exactly where the ribbon bends at 180 degrees almost with no place for a loop most of the focussing time. Can anyone find out where to find a NEW replacement ribbon cable?

I have a Canon PowerShot A430, and was taking photos yesterday, and the lens won't retract. Even tho the green light is flashing, it has no power.
When I press the on button, the light flashes, then I get a message showing "lens error, restart camera." I have tried other suggestions, but to no avail. Please help me.
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:

photos come with horizontal stripes and too bright
Hello naushed,
I had the same issue with the white horizontal lines with myCanon Powershot series camera too. When taking pictures, I get the horizontal lines. In daylight, I almost cannot see the pictures because it gives me very bright output. In darker areas, the picture can still be toleratedbut white lines are still there. Although when I am taking a video, the quality is good.
I was able to read that there is one part insidethe camera's mechanism that is faulty. Its a CCD problem. You should bring this to a CanonAuthorized service center and they should replace and fix the faultypart, free of charge. I got my Camera fixed for FREE! I was able to do macro shots again.Trust me and go to canon. What I did is to print this advisory fromcanon itself. And show it to them.
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8288&keycode=2112&id=29819
As part of their advisory:
"Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon willrepair, free of charge, the products listed above exhibiting theabove-mentioned malfunction if Canon determines that the malfunction iscaused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost ofshipping and handling in connection with this repair."
Hope this helps.

Canon PowerShot A495 - Brand new. Used it once and took 40 photos. It then told me to change the batteries which I did. From then on it keeps saying "change the batteries" I've used alkalines and also rechargeable NiMH, These are either new or fully recharged batteries and still I get the same message. I have also cleaned the terminals inside the camera and even those on the batteries themselves. No change. This is clearly not a battery problem. This is a camera problem and its seems I am not the only one to have it. Is there a simply solution to this?
Get it fixed under warranty.

I`ve bought a 4GB memory SDHC memory card to my Canon powershot A 430 camera, and when i put it in my camera - it says memory card error. I tried to unlock it by the small button, but didin`t help. What should i do? Is there anywhere wherein the SDHC Card can be used on Canon PowerShot A430
The Canon A430 uses MMC and SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I have my canon powershot A410 for one year and a half. But after I taked some pictures, the pictures appeared blurred or it is full of horizontal lines on the pic. I tried it with a flash and without but its all the same, I tought it first maybe it must be the lens, but when I sync with my PC, It's all the same pictures full of horizontal lines. What should I do? Is the problem from the lens or the image processor?... e-mail me and I will send you the sample images of the camera.. thank you very much for the assistance and consideration... I bought the camera july 2006 (16mths). Just a few days ago I notice horizontal lines in all my still images. Video recording is ok and playback is ok. For still image the image appear brighter and sometime white (overexpose?) with constant interval horizontal lines. Magnified it you can the lines is multicolored. Have change battery, sd card but no effect. Talk to canon technician, he say it is the optical problem (he also say this camera do not have CCD). Suggest I sent it to him for repair and checking.
I have the same problem, this is my second cannon sent to me from them!

horizontal white lines on blurry still pictures - after 2 years. But the video is working properly.
Dear Friend,
I had also the same problem with my Canon A430. Mainly this problem is due to stuck of the camera shutter, always in open mode, images are overexposed due to this.
I had the problem with lens flex cable, which was partially damaged due to movement of lens and one coil was not working, due to this one shutter was not working and remains always in open mode. There are two coils, which operates the 2 shutters. I purchased the lens flex cable from ebay and replaced it, now it is working fine. Your problem may be the same.

The pictures are appearing too much bright and they have the white lines in them when I shot any picture.
If I shoot in dark, it's a little better, but if there's little light then the picture appears too white.
It was alright, I'm using it for more than a year.
Please help me.
I suggest you to write a letter to Canon and to contact your local service dealer. After some struggling, they accepted the warranty claim and repaired my camera free of charge. The problem appeared when the camera was 23 months old.
