i have a maytag neptune 6500. we have tried both the bleach and the fabric softner. neither work. we've tried selecting every option on the machine, cleaning it, using hot water instead of warm; nothing is working.
i packed up the manual in the process of moving so i can't get to it right now. i'm surprised there's no solution yet online!
sorry this isn't a solution, but more problems.

Hi. What you are experiencing is a control board fault(logic chip failure-interment). This will require you to have the main control board replaced, asap. You stated that you have been continuously recycling the power. This Will indicate that there is indeed a fault present. The power cycling is basically forcing a reboot situation at the board. This will usually buy you a couple of washes, but this unit will soon shutdown if the necessary repairs are not done, quickly.

If possible, kindly post the entire model number. This will allow me to pull up the necessary part number you will need for part purchasing. I Will also Post a link to an exploded diagram, as well. The diagram will help with the disassembling process and give you a great visual look into the affected sector.

Is the rear pulley tight? If the rear drive pulley is not tight it will wobble during high speed spin and drop the belt. Only other cause I can think of for this would be the rear bearing starting to fail allowing the entire shaft to wobble. You would be aware of this courtesy of a very loud sound during spin though.

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers Wax Motor Replacement

The wax motor needs to be replaced and the control board requires repair or replacement should your Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer fails to advance to the high speed spin cycle and the "door locked" light is not turned on. This is a common issue that led the filing of a class suit against Maytag Corporation in 2004. Disconnect power to the machine prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock that can lead to physical injury, disability, and even death.

Access to the wax motor for replacement requires the removal of the front panel and the top cover. Once the two are removed, disconnect the wires from wax motor terminals then pry the spring clip off and take the wax motor out. Take note of the wax motor position before removing it from the door latch assembly to make sure you fit the new wax motor properly later on. One simple and effective way to do it is by taking a picture of the door latch assembly prior to removal of any component.

Fit in the new wax motor and make sure the shaft is properly seated into the slot provided on the latch axle and secure it firmly with the spring clip provided. Reinstall the top cover and the front panel back into position once the wax motor is properly installed.

Hi there,

Well first of all you can check out the water-inlet valve -
water-inlet valves eventually fail. One problem that may develop with a water-inlet valve is that it can no longer completely shut off when the electricity is turned off to it. Then, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub, you may notice that your washer has water in it when you haven't used it for a few days. To fix this, you need to replace the valve. To access the valve may be easiest by opening the top or back of the washer. There are two wires connected to each solenoid on the water inlet valve. The wires are connected with slip on connectors. Firmly pull the connectors off of the terminals. You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If either is corroded they should be cleaned or replaced.
The valve is fastened to the chassis by two screws typically. Remove the screws and remove the valve. The water line from the valve to the fill spout is fastened to the valve with a slip on hose and may also be secured by a pinch or screw clamp. Loosen the clamp by pinching the two prongs with a pair of pliers or turning the screw in the case of a screw clamp. Please post comments for further help or information.........

Good Luck!!

Check whether water is fully drained. Since the motor worked during wash motor is not faulty.

Check relay that poers the motor during spin mode. May be micro controller fault posiible.

May be the Ball bearings are worned-out

Maytag Neptune... | Answered on Mar 30, 2010

It sounds like your main bearing has gone out. It's quite an expense to fix and generally isn't worth fixing even if you do the repair yourself as the parts run about $600 by themselves and it takes about 1/2 a day to replace them. You can't replace the bearing itself so you have to replace the rear half of the outter tub and the inner tub.

If your washer is not spinning you need to check this part.
  1. Test the lid switch
  2. Test the timer control
  3. Test the centrifugal switch
  4. Test the water level switch
  5. Inspect the motor coupler
  6. Inspect the drive belt(belt drive only)
  7. Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  8. Test the motor
  9. Inspect the pulley
  10. Test the transmission

have you tired resetting it by unplugging it for 5 minutes? if that doesn't do it then it is time for a washer repair technician to look at the problem.
