KitchenAid 32685 Mixer - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Knocking sound
Same problem here! How can I fix it? I'm in the middle of important Christmas baking!
The mixer is a 300 watt model, it was used for too
Hi GERALD. You don’t provide your model number so I can only provide a ‘generic’ solution to your problem.
More than likely when you inadvertently stripped the plastic (worm) gear the speed control assembly was also damaged electronically. That’s why you get the higher speeds but not the lower speeds.
I’ll assume you already have your mixer’s Parts List manual on-hand. If you're lacking one, you can download it from the KA website http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number and select a file under Parts List (and then check to see it this matches your mixer model).
Turn to pages titled "Motor And Control Parts", which provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer’s electrical components, along with all the parts. You’ll want to focus on "Control Plate Assembly."
First inspect around the control plate assembly to ensure all the wire connections are OK. It's possible a connection has come loose during the reassembly from your first repair. Unfortunately the whole controller assembly is fabricated on a little PC board which was not meant to be 'home fixed', and my 'expertise' ends there. A local small appliance repair shop should be able to determine if the controller assembly is functioning properly or not, or you can just order replacement parts without the testing.
As far as parts go, here are four potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com. Prices for the same part can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping.
Here are five potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com; and Grainger.com. You should be search for ‘food grade grease’. Prices can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping.
Finally, here are some links to several excellent websites that detail the disassembling/reassembly of a KA Mixer that are good to have in your ‘toolbox’.
I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

From day one my new kitchenAid mixer shakes all
The model 32685 is not a correct model, it is most likely a serial number It can be found usually on the underside of the unit. Usually letters followed by numbers. However there is no adjustment unfortunately, It could be a manufacture defect possibly. Or maybe damaged during the original shipping. The only thing that could be done to correct this is by replacing the base or depending on the age of it, call Whirlpool warranty and see if they can cover it for you. Hope this helps
Thanks

It sounds like the nylon gear is stripped out. It is a rather easy to replace and also inexpensive. A gentlemen posted a step by step site to replace the gear. The link is http://www.neilcrockett.com/mixer.htm
Good Luck

KitchenAid Professional 5 Quart stand mixer grain mill won't grind?
From what I know about these and industrial Hobart mixers is that where drive gears are on a shaft they are held by a shear pin that goes right through the gear and the shaft. They are made to shear if the grinder or planetary head is strained. It shears the pin instead of damaging the motor or shredding gears. When they do shear, there is often enough friction to turn the attachment, but not enough force under load. I see two shear pins in this diagram 19/8 and part 14/8. The diagram also show the orientation of bevel gears.

A Moulinex Coffee Mill might be a better solution for grinding wheat.

How to convert kitchenaid mixer from 220v to 110v
It's perfectly save to use a power converter from 220v to 110V. The 50Hz Frequenz will let the Motor spin 20% slower. So it'll last forever. I use a KSM90 from the US in Germany for more than 25 years. It runs great and the gears inside it look like new.
