make sure the printer model is compatable with mac and if so get the driver and put it on the mac and connect the printer with a usb cable or a ethernet or wifi.

When you click to print something, you will get what's called the Print Dialogue box. Before clicking "OK", click the Properties button.This will take you to a screen with some tabs. Click on the Paper/Quality tab. Somewhere in that window you will see some options for "Print Quality".By default, it is probably set to "Normal". That's the middle setting. To save ink, you can set it to Fast Normal (better for ink saving) or Fast Draft (best for ink saving). This means the printer will use less ink to print the page. The final copy will look a little lighter but certainly still readable.This option "fast draft" will print very fast and also save your ink.

REMOVE AND CLEAN THE CARTRIDGE CONTACTS(GOLDEN DOTS) WITH SOFT CLOTH AND TRY IT BACK. IF THE CARTRIDGE IS NOT DETECTING PROPERLY IT MAY TAKE MORE TIME.

Change settings to Normal or fast Normal.

I discovered on mine, exact same problem, I opened the tray, removed the cartridge, and forced it back in hard and fast. It didn't work the first 12 times but after that, it got a solid connection and it worked. Works fine now. Anyway that's the problem and the problem isn't the cartridge (genuine hp cart here). The problem is on the printer side, the pins that hit the cartridge. Anyway get rough with it, slam it in and out, close the tray, if it doesn't work within 5 seconds, open the tray and do it again. It WILL work.

Clean the glass on the extreme left side of the printer. Lift up the feed tray and clean the vertical glass. You probably have some debris on it, such as white out or some other stuff.

If a reset hasn't cured this problem you probably need to disassemble the printer and clean the service station and the system board. This normally clear all carriage and cartridge errors, but these machines are quite awkward to take apart.

You may need to remove the protective sticker, if you've done that already, try cleaning the print heads, they sometimes get clogged... Best of luck!
