Did you remove the tape? If not ... remove the tape. If you did, clean the heads with rubbing alcohol. Reinstall. Are these genuine Dell cartridges? Not off brand nor refilled ... If they are genuine Dell Originals ... and they still don't work - take them back to the reseller where you purchased them for replacement.

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

If these ink cartridges are new, then take them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacements. If they're old, then try purchasing a new Dell Series 5 ink cartridge.

The rollers on this printer are worn out. Replacements may be available, however it might be easier in the long run to get a new printer.

try same cartridge from other printer, if its ok mean you have to replace it with a new one.

Welcome to Fixya. If you have incorrect left cartridge error use the steps below to clear the problem.

This can happen if you dindn't remove all the tapes from the cartridge.
Please check this and let me know if you solved

The USB Port; any will do.

there is still paper stuck in the printer. open up the front of the printer (as if you were changing the ink cartridge) and remove the paper. Then turn the printer off and on. Good luck.

Inspect some paper jammed from the paper tray, from the ink cartridge compartment and from the rear door of the printer (back door) and then try to print again.

You have either got a piece of paper stuck in paper transport or one of the drive rollers has come loose

It is more likely that there is a foreign object in the paper path

You need to get a strong torch and check that there are no obstructions, it is acceptable to turn the printer upside down and give it a shake and a slap

I recovered a comb from one machine do just that

Or get a piece of heavyweight paper around 120g and see if that will go through

Go to the printers settings there should be an option in the menu "run tests" or "print test page" or "calibrate" and "clean nozzles" . Run them all. Sometimes if the printer have not used for a while, the nozzles get blocked and you need to clean them several times.

Remove and then reinstall the cartridge. If the problem persists, perform a hard reset.

Go to www.dell.com and check for printer driver downloads and select the model number, operational system you use and any other information when prompted.
