Your getting this message because the radio portion of the handset or/and base is not communicating with each other. This can be temporary or fatal. You can try re-registering the handset(s) to the base by following the directions in the manual, its fairly easy to do for any model. If that does not work,and you have more than one handset not working with this problem, then it sounds as if your base needs repair or replacing.

Protectiion diodes inside the handset are designed for this. Have you tried another charger/power supply since the power surge/spike? Battery may have also been reduced to 3.58 volt threshold or below. This will "not" allow the charge cycle to act in a normal mannor. If all that fails. Time for another. Capacitors don't like extrame power surges. nor do diodes or resistors. Says it all yeah

Firstly, of course you must be paying for the service from your phone company. Secondly, If you are and it's not working, contact them.

It sounds like the phone system base station is burned out.

I don't think that is possible on that model of phone. This is a phone with only the basic features and a fixed ringtone.
