A1000 not switching on
Try connecting your player to the USB cable to ensure that it is being charged before attempting to turn it on again. You may have to leave it for a short while to get enough charge to start up.
Also, try pressing the reset button on the player and see if that makes a difference (You won't loose any songs while doing this)

Maybe the mp3 player is dead.. but.. you should install the firmware update for it.. because maybe the mp3 player ROM has a defect..
SOund Interferance
I have a similar problem. If you put a bit of pressure on the top right corner of the mp3 player (i.e.: clamp it between a couple of your fingers) the sound becomes fine again. However, in my case, the problem eventually became worse, up to the point where I couldn't hear anything at all.
I think you'll need to get it serviced to fix the problem.
I'm sorry I can't help more than this.

Volume button sheared off
Mine fell out a while ago, to put it back in, I've found that if you hold the player with the screen up, put the "V" end of the "VOL" next to the "-" end on the player, angle it up the way a bit and it should go back in and allow you to change the volume.
Otherwise, take apart a paperclip or something and push the little black square in the hole, this should adjust it too.
To me it seems to be a serious design fault - the "L" shaped pieces that hold it in the player are only on one side, allowing it to easily fall out if pushed from the other side.
Where is all of my music???
Aha! I've had that problem. That can happen when something breaks down the connectivity between the player and your laptop. The database gets corrupted. I've had to reload all the songs to get it back in sync. You may want to upgrade to Sonic Stage if you haven't already.
Error Code 82040100
ERROR CODE 82040100 SOLUTION:
here's what I did to solve this problem:
-update walkman's firmware to latest version (3.0)
-control panel > system > hardware > device manager
uninstall the driver for the walkman (remove device)
-now connect player can initialize the player again,
but I installed Sonicstage CP 4 which is much better anyway.
Charging
NO, BUT THE LIGHT GOES OUT. BIG CLUE? NOT REALLY. BUT IT WILL HAVE TO DO.
Stuck while loading music??
The same thing happened to mine a couple of times..
I let the battery run completely down then plugged it into my computer.. after a couple of attempts it seems to recognised the mp3 player, and works at least for a bit after that.
I've now deleted and added quite a few various tracks, and it has been fine for a while now.. so not sure if it might be a corrupt/dodgy file taht I've now deleted or something?
