Dell Axim X51 Pocket PC Questions & Answers
Lost my Dell axim with valuable info. Does
A few of the service providers have GPS software that you can purchase and activate even though the phone is no longer in your posession. If I were you, I would contact Dell and then your internet provider and ask them if they can assist you with locating your pocket pc.
I cannot get it to turn on
Stewart,
You may need to replace the battery in the system. I am not sure if Dell has any parts still available for the Axim. You can call Dell Spare Parts at 1-877-717-3355. If they do not have parts you could search the internet.
Thank You,

To everyone that's having problems with not booting up or back plate battery cover warning messages on your Dell PDA, I think I've found the answer, I have 2 Dell's PDA's, 1 a X51v & the other a X50v, I was having problems with both of them (1 had battery cover warning messages & the other had a screen freezing) so I stripped the 2 of them down when I had both rear shells together I noticed that the small piece of sponge that Dell fit to the latching mechanism one was on the far right of the latching plate on one & the other was in the middle of the plate, I looked to see which shell belong to which PDA & the one I was having problem with battery cover warning messages the sponge far right, so I swapped the back shells around & booted it up BINGO!!!!! problem solved, I'm fairly sure the SPONGE SHOULD BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LATCH PLATE, if I'm right Dell engineers & executives should be shoot, su ch a simple fix why didn't they let owners know about this. This has got to be easier than trying to bridge the switch contacts or rip the switch off the board, give it a go guys, Please let me know if it works on your PDA. I will upload some photo should any of you guys need.

Dell Axim will not power on
From what I have been told is to never download any emails onto the PDA. By doing this it always totally rinses out your battery. If you are doing this then you should get rid of that feature, otherwise contact Dell for a replacement if its possible.
Axim x51v won't sync
Guys it's probably down other sync software on your system like phone sync, I had the same problem yesterday, sometime ago I had installed software for my HTC phone, check in add/remove programs & uninstall anything that sync with your computer, then reinstall activesync.

Hello and welcome to FixYa. Generally the getting started cd, only contains the program to connect the pda to the computer, sometimes there are extra programs, games, etc but noting really important is on the disk. If you are on windows XP, You need Active Sync. If you are on Vista or newer, you need a mobile device center, both can be obtained from here. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-synch.mspx Active sync / mobile device center, lets you sync content from your pc into pda, you can also install games, programs, tools, music, etc, etc from the computer into the pda - you can download programs from countless websites. for example http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ Let me know if you have any questions or if you get stuck somewhere.
My Dell x51v Axim suddenly
Hi,
First try a "soft reset" - this clears all open programs and "reboots" the Pocket PC. When the Pocket PC powers back up, you'll start with all active programs closed and the device should be ready to use. This procedure is intended to reset the Pocket PC if it is malfunctioning or has become bogged down.
This reset is also sometimes necessary after software is installed.
The X51v can be soft reset by pressing the recessed button on the rear of the unit above the battery.
Try to reconnect with your PC. If that fails - on the Axim - go to start - settings - connections - usb to pc and untick enable advanced network functionality - then see if you get a connect.
If you are still not getting a connection you will have to try a "hard" reset. However be aware that a "hard" reset wipes the RAM and returns the Pocket PC to its factory specs.
In effect, the Pocket PC will be just as it was when you purchased it.
All data entered, preferences set or software installed (other than ROM updates) on the Pocket PC after purchase will be lost after a hard reset and will have to be transferred or reinstalled via ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center.
The hard reset is performed through the following procedure;
With the unit turned on, press and hold the power button at the top of the unit. While holding the down power button, use the stylus tip to press the "Reset" button mentioned above. Allow the screen to fade to off. Release both buttons. The unit will power back on and display a menu to confirm the hard reset request.
Make sure you have downloaded and are using the newest version of microsoft activesync.
Try the reconnect and let me know how you get on.
Hope this helps. Please do rate my answer. Thanks.
I have an open request.
If you mean whilst roaming they should pick up changes without intervention unless a setting has been changed
I can however tell you how to get the DNS servers if your are operating within a fixed network.
Your easiest option is via a windows based PC
Go to the start menu and select RUN
In the box type "cmd"
Now in the black screen that has come up type "ipconfig /all"
Take note of the numbers that are in 4 groups e.g. 192.168.1.1
Also take note of the name in front of those numbers !
You will notice two lots of numbers that say DNS Server in front of them. You only want the four block numbers and not the ones with letters in them (hex)
Those are your DNS servers.
Plug those into your device in the order you got them from the PC.
save that connection profile and you may have to re-start the device for them to be effective.
Hope I was on the correct lines for you

Hi,
First of all confirm if you can go online through the wireless network of your router on any of the other wireless computer or laptops. If no then you need to first configure the router itself. If yes, then please let me know what sort of security encryption is being used on the wireless network?
Also, follow the steps below:
1 Tap Start → Settings → Connections.
2 Tap Network Cards.
3 Choose Internet from the menu.
4 Choose the network card to connect to the network. For the
Axim X51/X51v with built-in wireless, choose Dell Axim X51/X51v
WLAN Wireless Adapter.
5 Choose the network card so as to receive an
IP address automatically.tap OK.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
