Where is sound card located
Hello there,
The sound card is located at the back part of the motherboard. It is connected by a flexi ribbon. Then it sits on a tray spot on the back of the casing. It has the 3.5mm pin prongs port on it, with a mic port.
That is the sound card.
Hope this was helpful to you.

Hi jdr_dlr519!Pardon me.... but did your friend connected the monitor cable correctly on the system unit? Cleaning the fan will not break your computer... however, if he forgot to disconnect the power cables before opening the unit, it may do a damage.

Help with Upgraded harddrive on 831GM Gateway
Looks like the file system on the new drive is raw. Set your old hard drive to Master(using the jumper at the back) and set the new one to cable select(CS) connect both to your system and download this free software called Marcium Reflect(Free) and use it to format and partition your new drive.
http://www.macrium.com/ReflectFree.asp Note: If you do not have two hard disk power plugs and IDE cables, you can obtain splitters at your local computer store.
Let me know if you need more help,
Sai.
Why does my fan seem to be cycling at all times
your fan has nothing to do with your computer slowing down.
your fan goes on when a threshold is reach in the cpu temperature or another component's temperature being cooled. the question is what's is causing your cpu or your chipset to work harder than usual causing your system to seem to be sluggish??
the simple answer is malware and need for a clean up and tune up
I suggest you do the following:
1. get an air can, open the case and without touching anything and watching for ESD, dust off your system free.
2. close the case and turn your computer on
3. update your antivirus and run deep scans
4. get all critical updates for your system from windows update
5. download, spybot search and destroy, malwarebytes, superantispyware, and a square free edition, update them and run deep scans.
6. defrag your hard drive
7. to improve perforamance make sure you update or upgrade memory
good luck!

Can't copy dvd or cd
it's possible that the CDROM drive is bad. Since it's an IDE device, it would be easy to replace. Simply get another DVD-RW device (might as well upgrade!) and open the case. Needless to say, you want the machine off for this process.
Open the case, disconnect the power and data cables from the back of the CDROM. Unscrew the holding screws and slide out the drive. Replace the drive with the DVD-RW, line it up and replace the screws. Then connect the data and power cables...be careful with the data cable to make sure that you don't "miss" a row of pins.
Put the case back together and turn on the machine. XP should automatically recognize the drive.
Power will not come on. power supply, fans are
check ur motherboard front panel cables its on the mother board remove all the cable from the pins then take a screwdriver n touch oe by one with all pin if ur system start then u have problem with ur power button if not then ur motherboard is damage
Power switch stutters when depressed.
Try connecting the reset switch in the place of the power switch. Both of them are push buttons so your only problem is that you have to use ctrl+alt+del for reset.
