How do I recover the start up password for my hp laptop nc 6230?

(This is the same advice I gave to this question just a second ago but it is a answer that hopefully will get you going in the right direction.) Basic Input Output System or "BIOS" "your locked out" this is tricky & not for the nube or beginner, there are a few ways to crack the password, there is the kiosk method were you remove the hard drive then plug into the 15 pin port on the side of your device into a device that has software that can read the content that's in your CMOS BIOS, you'll have to weed thru a ton of jibberish code till your see your password, it will be jibberish then something you'll recognize as legible, if your lucky you'll be able to boot "Hirens boot CD" it's open source & 100% free I'll put a link below, I suggest going to your favorite video hosting site & search "Hirens boot CD & BIOS crack" there is Hail Merry maneuver you can try, remove your main battery & the quarter size battery on the mother board, "while powering on & holding down the button" "!now real quick pull the power cord!", this some times discharges the capacitors it will take a few try's if your lucky it will reset the BIOS, The way I prefer shutting it down remove power cord & battery, open it up til you can access CMOS & BIOS chips near the quarter size battery, now remove the bottom RAM leave a or the card in the top slot only, using a screwdriver short the pins on the chip when powering on, "This takes know how & can be a disaster if you do it wrong" or there are services on video sites that will mail you a dongle that you plugin & resets BIOS & other paid methods, you can spend any ware from $20 to a bazillion depending on the crack technique, just make sure to do your homework before you move forward.. I wish I could tell you magic trick but that is what your up agents http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download PS try " 12345 " without the, " "

Insert smart card into reader problem

I think its looking for a boot command from the card reader. Which means pressing the DEL or F10 or F2 key repeatedly while booting to get into your bios to change your boot order.

If it wont let you, try booting while pressing the F8 key, with luck it may bring up windows boot options, choose the safe mode. When up, Click on Start - all programmes - accessories - system tools - system restore - choose a date prior to problems. (This is for XP, Vista and Win7 slightly different)

Boot from your windows disk, and choose the repair option.

Or download, UBCD4Win , the ultimate boot cd for windows, This will load a windows shell system with loads of diagnotic and repair tools.

You could download and run Ubuntu without installing, that will give you access to any data files.

If none of this works, the only recourse is to re-install windows. But in
doing this, you will be re-formatting the hard drive which will remove all data on the drive.

If you don't have a copy of windows, you do have Ubuntu. I use it nearly all the time now, even though I have a dual boot system.

I have forgot my password

I have bad news for you. If the power on password is forgotten, simply pulling the battery does not reset it. You have to bring the LT to an HP repair center for servicing. Please see the below from HP's website
