How do i get drivers and more free memory on my notebook, Thats what it keeps flashing up and im getting stressed ive just got windows xp pro installed after weeks of problems.?

Martin, this laptop is so old and has so little memory, it'll be difficult to get much to run on it. The fact that support for WinXP is over leaves you with little to do with it. Donate it and get the tax write off. Keep the external extras you bought - you may be able to use them. Have a look at eBay or Craigslist in your area for a used PC - desktop or laptop. You'll probably be surprised to see what you can get for short money on a machine that can run modern apps. Look for a a machine that has a processor with at least 2 cores (more is better), 4GB RAM and 100GB or more HDD space. Look for Windows 7 - a 64 bit ("x64") version is better than a 32 bit ("x86") version. Most laptops will have built in WiFi and desktops will have a network connection. You can buy a desktop like this for about $60. I know, because I did this summer. HP, Core2Duo, 4GB, 150GB, Windows 7 x64. You'll be eligible for a *free* Windows 10 upgrade IF you have Windows 7 or later installed.

How or where do i get a windows 7 boot download to copy to disc to sort my omnibook xe3 out it currently has win98se installed but thirs allsorts missing.

Upgrade the memory and try win xp you'll see better performance. You can download win 7 from lots of places free.

It is the license that you have to purchase that people seem to be trying to find a get around for.

Just go to Microsoft website or search for win 7 iso

Good luck and thanks

What to do straight after changing hard drive.

After changing the hard drive, you simply insert you windows disk and follow the prompts. You have been given my advice as far as what operating system to install, so I imagine you were seeking a second opinion. Just to reiterate Windows XP if it originally ran 98. You may be able to get a computer to install an operating system other than what was intended for it, however if the hardware is not complimenting the software or vice versa performance is compromise and may not be worth using. All you can do is try. Good luck and thanks Questions? Just ask! Mr.Mike

Hi how do i go about resetting my windows password ,its letting me use my user password which i put my gmail address but ive never had a windows one .or would it be on this pc im using at present.

Depending on the windows you have there are some tools you can use to reset the password. if you had done a windows 10 upgrade and you setup your gmail account as your Microsoft account you should use the password you gave when you setup windows 10 with your credentials

Ive just tryed to gain access on my notebook but all it is saying is accessing my files then stays like that after reboot so could i load repair software with usb or cd without having to have access,

Assuming that this is still the factory HD and a Windows OS you can try and access the recovery and repair options by pressing F8 at the BIOS screen. From that screen you can boot into safe mode or launch start up repair, etc. Let me know if that helps. I’m happy to help further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/james_d4449ffdf318a2c3

Backlight suddenly disapears.

Sounds like it could be a loose connection to the backlight. This can happen with the opening and closing of the machine over time. The only way to check is to open the case and possibly remove the screen in order to check the connections. It could also be that the backlight is starting to fail. This is not a serviceable part and would have to be replaced.

Windows\system32\hal.dll. corrupt

Method 1

Edit the Boot.ini file to restore or correct the Default entry and to ensure that the other entries in the [Operating Systems] section of the Boot.ini file point to the appropriate directories. For more information about how to edit the Boot.ini file, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 289022 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022/ ) How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP

Method 2

Use the Bootcfg utility in the Recovery Console to correct the Boot.ini file:
  1. Use the Windows XP CD-ROM to start your computer.
  2. When you receive the message to press R to repair Windows by using the Recovery Console, press the R key.
  3. Select the Windows installation that you want, and then type the administrator password when prompted.
  4. Type bootcfg /rebuild, and then press ENTER.
  5. When the Windows installation is located, the following instructions are displayed:Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All) [Type Y in response to this message.]Enter Load Identifier: [This is the name of the operating system. Type Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition.]Enter OS Load options: [Leave this field blank, and then press ENTER]. After you perform the preceding steps, restart the computer, and then select the first item on the boot menu. This should allow Windows XP to start normally. After Windows XP has successfully loaded, the Boot.ini can be modified to remove the incorrect entry.
For more information about how to edit the Boot.ini file, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 289022 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022/ ) How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP

Method 3

  1. Start the computer by using your Windows XP CD-ROM. Press any key to boot from the CD.
  2. After the setup files are finished loading press R to repair using Recovery Console.
  3. When you are in the recovery console, select the installation to log on to (usually number 1), and then press ENTER.
  4. Login to the Administrator account by typing the password for this account, and then press ENTER.
  5. At the recovery console command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: For Uni-Processor systems: expand <cd-drive>:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ <hd-drive>:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exeFor Multi-Processor systems: expand <cd-drive>:\i386\ntkrnlmp.ex_ <hd-drive>:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe Note In these two commands, the <cd-drive> placeholder represents the drive letter of your CD drive, and the <hd-drive> placeholder represents the drive letter of the hard disk on which windows is installed.
  6. If you receive a prompt to overwrite the file, press Y.
  7. Type exit, and press ENTER at the command prompt.

Method 4

Start the computer by using the Recovery Console, and then run theCHKDSK /rcommand.Note You do not have to include the /p switch in the Chkdsk command-line because the /r switch causes the Chkdsk utility to locate bad sectors and recover readable information. This command implies the /p switch..
