Kenmore 21.7 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator with Acceler-Ice 3xi Ice System Questions & Answers
The ice tray is filled
NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
The icemaker is 110v
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking or no water at icemaker or door either one, then the valve at the rear bottom of ref needs replacing
First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also if it is getting drinking water to the door but not to the icemaker (or vice versa) Then you need to replace
the water valve at the bottom rear of the fridge. It is a double valve and one side is not working
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
If you have noticed sheeting of ice either in the ice bin or on the bottom of the freezer compartment ANS the rubber ice maker fill tube in the back of the freezer is frozen with ice.... the problem is the inlet water valve is bypassing water when it supposed to be shut off. (Common failure)
Often when the rubber tube freezes in the back it will cause the tube behind the unit to either leak on the floor or blow out of the connection to the rubber fill tube.
Additionally.... you mentioned that the ice-maker would start working if you raised the freezer temp. Feel the chassis of the unit where the freezer and refrigerator doors close. It should be warm but not really HOT to the touch. If it feels rater hot to the touch... you need to remove the rear cover and clean the lint from the condenser coils and fan.
Also do this test... Depress the freezer door light switch. Watch for the light to go out. If the light does not go out there is probably a failed door switch. The switch will have 3 terminals. One terminal marked "C" will always have power on it. The other 2 terminals one goes to the ice maker and is powered only with the door closed. The last terminal goes to the light and is powered when the door switch plunger is extended.
Reach back and touch the back wall / evaporator acess panel and feel for blocks of ice. If it is blocked with ice it will restrict the airflow / the freezer warm slightly and the ice maker themostat does not reach 14 to 16 deg F to start the ice harvest cycle. Should you discover a block of ice on the evaproator coils do a manual defrost by unplugging the unit, directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours with the freezer contents removed. (Makes a water mess so be ready) After the manual defrosting session... reload the freezer, plug the unit in ad return it to normal service. After 6 - 8 hours check for ice production. If you have ice production now... you most likely have and automatic defrosting problem where as the defrost cycle is terminating early or the defrost heater and / or defrost themostat is not working correctly.

I have a kenmore refri/freezer with top mount
Your defrost system is at fault.
Most likely the defrost terminator thermostat attached to the freezer coil.
Could possibly be a bad defrost timer.
I would have to have the exact model number to be more specific.
Water seems to be leaking into the freezer before
Actually your evaporator drain is clogged, take your freezer back panel off. At the bottom there is a drain hole, stick a flat head screwdriver and see if there is something blocking the drain hole. You will have to defrost your fridge first. Good luck!
Clogged Water Dispensor
The water inlet solenoid is the culprit. It lets water into the icemaker and water for the dispenser. Follow the waterline to the back of the frige and it ends at the water inlet solenoid. Note the 2 solenoids built into 1 part. Replace this part and you are done. Don't forget to unplug frige and turn off the water before you replace this part. EZ FIX...
I am not sure this is the right refrig. I have a
there s a adjustment but it only controls /like 1 to 2 oz of water . its prbably the ice mker unit or the water valve . .. ice mker tell water how long to let water in and if valve is bak it might not shop off causing water fill . change water valve first . then ice maker if needed .. icemker might have a bad tray and some cubes do not drop / if so next fill will over fill causing problem . mm
Ice maker not hooked up (on purpose). The ice
Sounds like you are not going to use the automatic icemaker, so I would remove the whole icemaker unit which will include disconnecting the wire harness behind the icemaker which will shut off power to the icemaker and will also give you more storage room in your freezer compartment. This will not harm the refrigerator or the icemaker, you could also disconnect the waterline if you want. Please note that this solution applies to the top freezer, and bottom freezer style refrigerators only thatt DO NOT have dispensers through the door. Good luck !
Six hours to make eight cubes???
when you first hook up an icemaker it sometimes takes a couple of days for it get up to speed. there may not be a problem give it some time.
Hollow ice cubes and ice cubes getting jambed by
More than likely, the water entering the icemaker is not enough, possibly caused by clogged water valve or reduced pressure from incoming water line. Check water line pressure if ok proceed to replace the water valve.
Water in fridge
First, empty freezer and fridge. Unplug and leave door open for at least 3-4 hours. Blow out drain lines with compressed air. It is more likely that the drain line is clogged than frozen; but a clogged drain line will freeze-up quickly.
Bad tasting ice
disconnected your water line to your fridge and let it rum in to a bucket so you will have fresh water for your fridge but before plug it back to your fridge pour a example in to a cup and drink it to see how it theist like.
if that don,t solve your problem,
there is a way to get rid of bad rubber taste on the water , but is kind of hard to do first
you need to take you refrigerator out side
because is going to be messy find some kind of water pump and a bucket and some hose.
disconnect the water line going out of the water valve to your ice make and rig your hose together whit that one.
on the bucket pour a full bottle of Synthetic vinegar "yes the same stuff you put in your salt", make sure is synthetic not the natural kind
using a pump flush your refrigerator whit the vinegar, you can add some water if you need
if there is two water valves do the same on both.
good luck.
Shot Mold Heater?
The mold heater comes on shortly before the ice is dispensed. It warms up the mold so that the ice releases. The heater, if not working could cause the water to overflow as the ice can not be ejected if the heater does not work. That woud make the appearance that the ice melted and refroze.
