Use a little less water. try that and see if it helps. Just start with a TBSP shy of current recipe.

Do you mean how do you remove the lid?

Yesterday I have the same problem: the belt of my Sunbeam bread machine broke. My problem is I didn't find a belt replacement yet. Once you have a replacement, to change the belt:
1. Unscrew the 4 screws located at the bottom of the machine
2. Open the top of your machine. You'll see 8 screws that put together the bottom of the chamber with the walls. You need to unscrew those screws with a very long screwdriver (caution with the heating element).
3. There is one screw attaching the heat element to a ceramic rectangle to the opposite side of the chamber. Unscrew this TOP scew.
4. Once all those screws are out you have to force the bottom piece of the machine with a flat screwdriver. This bottom is attached to the top part with some clips on the front and the back of the machine.
5. Once you open the bottom "cap", caution when separating both pieces. You will find a flat cable that is connected from the computerized pannel to one card attached to the bottom part of the machine. This plug located on the card at the bottom part of the machine have one drop of glue securing the two parts. Twist off the drop of glue and you can disconnect the cable from the card without any problem.
6. Once both parts (top and bottom) are separated you can proceed unscewing the 7 screws that fix the motor to the plastic bottom "cap". You need to do that to access the bellt area.
7. To place a new belt just unscrew the bolt that fix the large "circle". Take away the bolt, the 2 washers, the rectangle one and the "circle". Place the new belt around the small circle (motor) and the big circle. Return the big circle to its original location (align the square part of the wheel with the square part of the screw) and push it to set it in place. Return the rectangle washer, the flat washer, the pressure washer and screw the bolt to secure the pieces.
8. Put all the pieces together in reverse order: *screw the motor to the bottom plastic piece; *connect the flat cable to the card; *push the top and bottom pieces together and until all the clips fall in place; *screw all the little screws to the botom of the inside chamber; * screw the little/long screw to fix the heat element to the ceramic rectangle; *screw the bottom screws.

I made many loaves of bread over the past 2 years and then I heard a grinding noise with the last loaf I made, earlier today. When I cleaned it, I noticed that the dowel that holds the paddle was lose. When I pressed it down, during cleaning, it popped right out. There was what looked like a shredded white plastic washer. It would be nice if I could order this washer but I suspect this might be the end of that bread machine, since nobody here seems to be offering a solution. I don't even see where I could order the whole breadpan. Sunbeam only offers the whole bread machine. And Amazon offers the paddle.

Are you talking about the little paddle in the bottom of the pan?

Hi Bob: I believe the metal hook you are referring to may be the kneading blade. The small end of the wire thing works to dig the paddle out of the loaf, where it always sticks. I have no idea what the other end is for. Hope this helps.....a bit.

For Sunbeam 5891, you need a generic High Torque Synchronous Timing belt that is coded as: S3M537 and 6 MM Wide. It's 537 MM Long with 179 teeth, each set 3MM apart. Google S3M537 (or S3M 537) or consider one of the following:http://www.newenglandbelting.com/timingbelts/S3M-pitch_TimingBelts.pdfwww.jdv.belts.com (1-800-989-0162); or http://www.beltfrog.com/part/106006118/Belt-60-S3M-537-Bandoto satisfy this need.I did the research for a new belt but it turned out that the central hub of the drive gear had not been fully assembled and was coming apart.These synchronized drive belts have many other applications besides bread machine, like conveyors, photocopiers, printers, and shaping and milling machines. I think the 10 MM wide might fit, but the original was only 6 MM wide. I see that they're also offered in 10, 15 and 20 MM, so look for the 6 MM.

It sounds like your drive belt has come off or snapped. If you can take off the bottom panel and look in there you'll see which it is. A snapped drive belt is not uncommon on bread machines.
