Everything works but it plays
change the settings from pal ntsc or secam, depending on what system you are using. I.e. if it is in pal then change it to ntsc and vise versa

I shocked my unit so now doesn't work?
Hello:
This problem happens alot, electric shock carried in the body can and will cause units to fail. Especially if new carpet is installed. Altho it may seem small in human stardards but most electronics built today use CMOS chips which are highly sensitive to electronic static shock, That small about of electricity carried in your body after walking on some surfaces such as carpet can be thousands of volts, example when you walk across a room and touch a door handle. This voltage carried in you if not properly grounded will enter the electronics device and destroy sensitive cmos IC's. I suggest you open the unit and look for possible bad fuse in not the replace the unit there is nothing you can do other then replacing the board.

Get display : NO DISC or BAD DISC
Probably the laser lens needs cleaning.
Purchase a laser lens cleaner disc at Radio Shack ($13). No chemicals are involved.
Read & follow the instructions. It cannot harm the player if not done right.

GPX MODEL D2816
I heve worked with so many DVD players including playstation2 a while back. Almost all the time this problem is caused by a bad laser diode assembly. You can order one for your particular model, but they are not easy to replace, even for an electronic guy like me. A mechanical talent is a must.

I can't determine the polarity of my GPX PDL705 portable dvd
Hi,
I have uploaded the GPX PDL705 manual to this site today. If you check tomorrow they may have posted it by then.
If you look at the small print on the adaptor it should indicate by diagram Voltage output, current capacity, type and tip polarity by small diagram. Most adaptors are 'positive' -- but if you are unsure do not plug the adaptor into the device because it will fry it!

Multi region code for GPX PDL 705 portable DVD player
I hope this helps^^ try it and gimme a shout!
Turn on power.
Open lid.
Push 9 7 3 5 from the remote.
Select 0 using arrow keys.
Exit Setup.
Done.
The one above did work me,
only that after one turns on the player, enter in the 9735 with the
remote and press 'enter', you can choose between making your player
region-free or a different region in addition to R1. Select the desired
region unlock and press 'enter'.
Make sure you check the bottom of the DVD player to see if it was
manufactured in the first quarter of 2007, that might factor in whether
the code can work or not.

Try cleaning the lens. I usually get the same problem with my disks, but cleaning the lens makes it work again. Or check which format is compatible with your player. It will also say no disc if it is not. hope i was able to help^^ goodluck
