It's not operating perfectly. It doesn't always load the DVD on the first try. But once it's loaded, it plays through okay. I just kept moving the laser unit back and forth and cleaned the lens as recommended. I got the unit to where it would keep trying to load the disc and finally it recognized the DVD and started playing.

Turn off the power.

Open the lid and gently push the laser mechanism to the outermost point of the slot.

Power on and try a disc again.

Also try cleaning the laser lens with a mild foam cleaner and cotton swap. Leave to dry and re-try a disc.

If neither work, then the laser is probably faulty. If the unit will play CDs but not DVDs, then this is a good sign of a faulty laser.

This may be due to a bad contact in the connector. If you unscrew and remove the back cover, there is bunch of wires coming from the LCD with a male or female, I forgot, connector on the end, which plugs into its counterpart on the main board. That connector may not be fuly plugged in. The chance that this is indeed the case is no more than 10%. Unfortunatey it looks like this the electronics failure - 70% or LCD itself - 20%

there is a way to test the remote contorl. get a radio and put it on the am section. aim the remote control towards the radio and push the buttons on the remote. if it is working, you should be able to hear some statics from the radio speakers. try it and let me know. if you do not hear statics, they you need to open it and clean it with rubbing alcohol. use q tips to do clean the button on the board but be careful not to put any alcohol on the rubber buttons from the inside, it will ruin the finish on that. it will destroy your remote. good luck.

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!

I'm assuming that you have checked that the sound is not muted. To confirm that a reset to factory settings is the next procedure: Menu - Setup - General - Factory settings. If you don't see/hear any modifications then it's a hardware defect, not something with the settings.
This happens when the tv thinks that the headphones are used. Simple test to confirm that: plug in a pair of speakers and see if you get the sound on them. If you get and the situation doesn't changes when you unplug them then this is a mechanical defect: the small switch inside the headphone jack is faulty and keeps signaling that the headphones are plugged in when they are not.
The only way to fix that is to replace the jack, which involves a very delicate soldering procedure , one that only a good repairman can do - you must call one.

The EEPROM has lost it's boot log, replace the main board and the set should work

The ribbon cable is either loose or dirty.There could be a problem with the HDMI connections.
