Sony doenst turn on
For most do it yourself people this may not be something to tackle. You would have to safely get the cover off the set and about the only thing you could do then is a visual inspection of the power supply board (follow the power cord to it) and look for damaged parts or puffed up filter caps--see attached photos.Short of that unless you have a good meter and some other things this is likely a shop repair---keep in mind individual parts are not sold for any of these sets-----only circuit boards.guessing which board is bad and replacing can get expensive. The set should have a blink code (most of the Sony sets do) and the click you are hearing is likely the mechanical relay in the power supply indicating the set is trying to come on but does not make it, if you hear it click on and then click again that is shutdown.May be time to have a tech or a shop look at the set.Let me know if you have questions.
I get no sound from the tv when cable is connect. How do I get sound
ensure your tv is not in Mute mode. ensure your tv does not have Headphones or cable in headphone socket, this will mute the speakers.ensure the volume is turned up. test your cable on alternate tv if posible to test cable is correct. if still not working, contact Sony customer support. I hope this was useful
On back no switch to connect my pc
Hi I got the same model TV and it a very easy fix. You wont find a pc connector on the back of the tv as you mention but you will see a "15 pin connector" as they are called because thats what they have if you count the number of tiny holes in it. Anyway, you can find this at any electronic store including at home depot at the audio/video section. Once you get it connect one end to back of tv and the other to the side of your laptop which is where you will find it. Be sure to get a long enough cable by roughly calculating how far you tv is from the computer. you can spend up to $50 but a $10-$15 cable will be as good. good luck.
Screen blinked and then there was a dark band across the top of the screen
This sounds like one of the back lights have failed. This could be its power supply, and or the lamp itself. Not all the screens can be service for back light failure. This is design dependent. Also, if you are going to change a back light and you can, it is best to replace all of them at the same time. If not the coloration of the screen will be different from one part to the other. With age the color of these lamps changes a little. I would suggest with such an old set, I would get one of the newer LED/LCD sets. They are very far improved over the one that you have. Your set will be expensive to service, if it can be serviced. Jerry G.
The TV turns itself off
Hello.
You should check for dry joints on the inverter board.
Resolder them and see if it solves the problem.
Thin vertical red line
This maybe the symptom of a bad Panel. One Vertically This line is 99% bad panel. Call your warranty provider or SONY tech support if purchased under 2 years.
