Trying to hookup old dvd/vcr to new flat screen.

You need to use composite inputs. They have three connections, yellow for video, white for left audio and red for right audio. It does not matter which input you go into. I would imagine there are about 7 separate inputs like the ones I described, just remember which one you use because you will have to set the input to that number to see the VCR/DVD later. Get a phono or RCA patch cable and connect the same colors from out on the vcr/dvd box to in on the tv. Turn everything on, set the tv to the proper input using the menu or input selection and you should be able to view video tapes or dvds. Let me know if you need more help.

Kdl-32s2000: t.v. turns off and light blinks 4

My sony Bravia KDL32 LCD had a similar problem it kept switching itself off and then switching back on after a short period of time, I dont think I had the 4 blinks though. I switched off the software download and auto update which seems to have resolved the problem so far.

I have a problem with varying reception issues on

You can try a different antenna or a signal booster.Or use more than one antenna for picking up signals from different directions and use a diplexer to combie the signal into one.I have a Terk HDTVo and it will pick up stations from 40+ miles away when it is clear, but is choppy during storms. There will be under menu or tools on your remote a diagnostics option that will show signal strength on the chanel you are watching. Well hope this helps.

Bravia will not come out of standby (after 8+

Hi there, First off imediatly place a fan as close to the back of the tv as possible. Your tv's powerboard is overheating, placing a fan (regular box fan orso will do) there will help cool the circuit boards in the tv down. This could prolong the tv's life for a while if yo'r in luck (I have a 32" lcd Poloroid that shut off every 3 minutes orso, on 'lifesupport' this way, its working great(Ibuy and repair these, so I'll get to it when I find some spare time). If yours does completely breakdown (wont come on at all), BUT the powerlight is on, then this fix will still work, once the tv goes out and the powerlight DOES NOT light up or blink, the problem is more trickier (for me anyway), ok, here it goes; The caps (capacitors) in the powerboard are going out. This is a very common problem in all class and price ranges of modern lcd and plasma tv's/ monitor's. I don't know if this problem has been like this for awhile or it just started, but either way, if the tv takes an abnormal amount of time to "warm" up then it most likely will go out all the way sometime in the (near) future. If you have a tiny bit of will and knowledge ypou can open the unit and get to the print board. Examine this for "popped" capacitors, they will have a buldging top instead of a flat one. Im gonna try to include a pic of them here, if i can get it this time, I've tried bfore lol. But you can google image a "popped" or "bad" capacitor and you would be able, with ease, to diagnose if you have any of these. Usually only one or two. Radioshack sells capacitors (couple anyway) for $1.59 each. MAKE SURE the replacement is of the SAME voltage or HIGHER, or you will be right back replacing those 2. Every capacitor has a negative pole marked with an (-) on the side of the capacitor(by one of the "legs", always puit the negative (-) "leg" of the new capacitor in the same hole in the printboard as where the previous negative (-) "leg" of the capacitor was ( a capacitor with the negative and positive "legs" put in backwards will result in the new piece "popping" as sson as you turn it on!!) make sure the "uf" rating (for example the most common popped capacitor is the 1000 uf) is the same as the one you are replacing. I needed 1000 uf, 105 c and 26v (volt) ratings for the 1 capacitor I needed to replace to fix my LG 19" lcd panel monitor I found by the trash that the light came on off, but it didn't come on. I replaced that capacitor with ; 1000uf, 85 c and 36 v (volts0...It works fine eventhough the volts and the temperature rating (36v and 85c) was not the same as the (26v(volt) and 105c ) capacitor I removed !! Further, I've replaced capacitors that had the celcius rating of 105 with the only ones Radioshack had, namely 85 c(celsius) they have been working great, but I'm not sure about any effect, nor have I heard or read (yet?) about that making an urgent difference. Many threads that I've read people have done the same, so we should be ok (my stuff has been running good for a while longer then most brand new ones!.............(all these ratings ; 'uf ' and 'c' etc are on the side of the capacitor you are replacing and on the side of the ones you are replacing them with)...For all this all you need is the cheapest solder gun u can find (I bought one for $7.99 at Radioshack), a camera (to take pictures as you go to remember how to reassemble the unit) and, once you have your materials, 20 minutes to replace 2 or 3 capacitors and you are good to go...Most monitors and tvs (lcd/plasma) I've seen you have to lay flat on the ground/bed/blanket etc, to work on (screen side down). Usually there are 2 or 3 screws (or a few more) to remove, then you will have to carefully (its comes off easily most times)insert a flat screwdriver inbetween the casing and gently pry it up as you go around the whole frame. Sometimes you have to remove the little washer arouind the cable input orso, just be gentle and you cant go wrong. Once insidet here will be a box with wires running to the sides etc...unplug, gently, these wires and open the box. Inside you will find 2 or 3 circuitboards, check them all for "popped" capacitors, replace, reassemble and plug it in....Have fun becoming an overnight tv mechanic lol! Please let me know how this went and if this helped (or not) then please rate, thank you!ec15915.jpg

LCD picture has turned red and exhibits persistence-type ghosting

Depends, what are you mean by "big bucks"? To fix any type of LCD or, worst plazma panels runs in a few hundreds of those. The problem with your set is a main board, sometimes called as "control" or "scaller". LCDs are much easier to fix, among low level knowledge basics. All you need to do is to open the set(50 screws or more), then locate shielded board with all of those plugs and tuner in it and replace it carefully, by fighting with another 20 screws and muiltiple plugs. Be gentle! some plugs have a fasteners. But, first, contact manufacture's web or phone and ask for price and avialability of the part. You may need to open set first, to look up the ## on the board. Sony is a good product, but cost of the part might scare you away. Still: it's better to fix your exsisting set, compare to buy cheap substitude. Sony's are still pricey!
Good luck.

picture in picture means you will need a second input for PIP to work. For example you are watching a movie on a dvd player thru the bravia if your antenna is also connected that becomes your second input. Therefore when you select PIP a small screen will appear and you will be able to see the channel that was last set on that screen... hope this helps
