Sony KDF-E60A20 60 in. LCD HDTV - Page 10 Questions & Answers
Smudge looking marks onscreen
If you suddenly noticed it, this is most likely caused by a large piece of dust on the lens. It is hard to clean, you would need to take the whole TV apart in order to get to the lens (mounted on the optical block).
It could also be caused by a failure of the optical block, which had inherent issues. There is a pending class action law suit against Sony for problems with optical block that include smudges, hazes, and tints that appear after a certain number of hours.
Other causes could be a dirty portion of the mirror or a smudge on the inside part of the screen but these are rare because dust and contaminants do not usually accumulate on these parts of the TV.
I have a Sony KDF-E60A20...it blink red 5 times
5 is a bad lamp ballast . but you should check the lamp first. those tv's don't always detect ballast trying to start the lamp correctly. especially if its even been repaired before . most service poeple dont put the hv detect wire back in the correct place so when the lamp goes bad the tv thinks the ballast is bad. listen for a little short buzz or crackle noise from the back of the tv when you try to turn it on . the buzz noise last about 1 second and should happen about every 30 secoinds 3 times . if you hear it only the lamp is probly bad. or its a bad ballast

Blank Screen
I had this problem on my 42" Philips. Just got it yesterday and worked fine on the tv stand. As soon as I mounted the TV to the wall via wall mount system, I had the exact same issue you did. Figured it out today.
The wall mount was putting pressure against the center of the back of the tv (tv set had a slightly rounded back plate, and the mount was a flat plate). As soon as I put spacers (part of the wall mount hardware set) between the wall mount braket and the tv so there was no contact except at the mounting holes, the tv worked fine.
My theory is the pressure pushed the tv back plate against some board components which caused them to overheat (no air flow); or put pressure on internal connectors. I dont know.
Hope this helps, may not apply to your situation.

Hi, My 60 inch Sony projection model # KDF-E60A20.
This could be caused by dust on the bulb. Dust can cause the unit to over heat and will shutdown for a few seconds to a minute and then come back on when it has cooled down. This time can vary depending on the location of the unit and the temputure in the house. The dust becomes hot and so the Thermal unit shutsdown for a short while and then comes back on.
Clean the bulb by removing the cage and using compressed air and a micro fiber towel and install back intot he unit. Make sure you follow the Sony Maunal. Also make sure not to touch the bulb as the oils from your skin will cause it to burn out quickly.
Blank Screen but the green light lit
Check the bulb to see if it needs cleaning. Remove the bulb per the Sony manual and then clean it with compressed air and a micro fiber towel and replace. Give it a try.
TV shuts down periodically for short periods of
there is too much dust on the bulb. Take off the back panel and spray some compressed air over the bulb and clean out the fan. The dust is burning on the lamp which is causing the safety switch or breaker to shut down the bulb. I cleaned mine today and it works like new. Give it a try and let me know
I have a sony kdfe60a20 the red light blinks 3
The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.
I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.
