Time to replace lamp as existing lamp is reaching to end of its working life and causing problem.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual.

It is Lamp/ Bulb that is near to end of its life span.
Replace lamp in tv, replacement procedure is written in user manual.
Make sure to buy Sony original lamp for bright picture.

I sent a premium offer to solve tv issue but got no response so far, not sure why.
I'm Sony tech and can be helpful to resolve this problem.

BASED ON INFORMATION I HAVE IT IS A LAMP ISSUE.

You may want to remove and examine the lamp. Lamp has a 2,000 hour life span which works out to a average of 2 years.

If the lamp appears shattered inside you have a good chance it is your trouble.

Most but not all of these sets the picture gets darker just before the lamp fails.

My Sony lost its picture and had a flashing light. Unplugging for 36 hours solved the problem.

well probably you have a faulty power supply do this :

If lamp has not been replaced in last 2-3 years, get it replaced now because existing lamp is dying and causing problem.

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

you know what i would do. is look for any leaking or bulging capacitors in the power board first. then more complicated stuff comes.

in Sony KDF-E60A20 tv, its clear symptom of weak lamp that reached to end of its working hours life, replace lamp in tv to solve the problem.
DLP Lamp has limited life span like 3000 working hours and will be replaced after that time.

Thanks for using FixYa. Five blinks means AKB circuit (automatic kine’ bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly. There might be a backlight and/or an inverter board issue. It could also be due to the inverter circuits for the backlights. There could also be a screen driver problem; if it is then you have to change the entire inverter board. All this is only recommended if you have some kind of expertise for checking the internal circuitry of the TV as these units have high voltages running even when the set is switched off. The cost to change the inverter board including labor would be around $250, if you get this done by a professional. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Yes, the first suprise is that for this Sony TV the light and cleaning needs to be done from the front of the unit. There are two round screws on either end behind the front of the TV, you can use your hands to loosen these, then the bottom piece is only attached by magnets. Then you unscrew the middle center plate and remove the little door, and some compressed air should do the trick from there, after that just put everything back together and unless your tv is pissed off like mine this should work for a period of time...

This is a Heat issue with the front sensor of the TV. Dust and Dirt block the sensor causing it to heat up faster and faster. Cleaning the lamp is extremely easy and it will get the TV working again, at least for a short while and then it will happen again. I know cause its been happening to me and it will work for about two weeks and start happening again. Sony actually has a class action lawsuit against them for this issue. Long story short here are the steps to correct the issue:
1. power down TV and disconnect from the power outlet then let sit for 30 minutes until its colled down 2. On the bottom corners of the TV (Back side) you will find a round screw that you can loosen with your fingers 3. once both screws are lose the front bottom part of the TV will pull off, there are magnets there so it will hold it in place temporarily. 4. Once the cover is removed, in the center of the TV will be a little door with another Finger screw to loosen, once off move the bar holding the door closed and remove the plate. 5. You will need an Alan wrench, the screw will be in the upper left corner, when this is loosened the screw will not fall out and you can pull out the Light fixture 6. CAREFULLY with compressed air spray the light assembly and the inside of the TV very well and then replace the light bulb. 7. Put the Door back on the front of the Light area, and assemble the rest of the TV in reverse order before testing the TV. I have done this multiple times as this is not a permanent fix but does restore life for a short period of time.

Replace the lamp to fix this problem.

The light engine is going bad and needs replaced. contact Sony . they were replacing some of these out of mfc warranty.
