I do have a work around that I have used on this model for the past3 years. if the sceen goes black. Turn off the tv. Grab the upper left and right hand corners of the tv with your hands. Flex the tv slightly back and forth. then turn it back on. my will usually run for hours after I do this. I do this 4 times a week. I works 100% if the time for me. Sharp lost a customer. good luck.

Try first leaving the unit disconnected from power for 15/20 mins, that will probably not fix the problem, but is a necessary step in troubleshooting.

If there is a dim light, that means that the inverter is on. Problem is likely the main control board, but parts must be tested before replacement.

The unit is repaired testing the internal component.

This TV comprises few boards: a Button/IR board, a digital controller board, a PSU, an inverter.

If you are a repairer,testing willl start from PSU, following voltages on main board and testing the inverter.

Some HD screens have processors that handle the top and bottom of the screen independently; in your case I would suggest either of these chipsets could have failed and also the processor board that integrates and displays the top and bottom screen components.

Make sure that the appropriate video input for your live video screen is not set to an incompatible TV format, nor is it prorgressiv scan?

Thanks for using FixYa. Hope you already know that this cannot be corrected through the MENU options. To resolve this issue you’ll have to open the back of the unit and check the inverter board which is the power supply source for the backlights. The issue can be a bad inverter board and/or the inverter board is not getting 20vdc from the power supply maybe due to the connector that has gone bad/loose. All this is only recommended to be done by someone who has electrical expertise and knows about the internal circuitry of the unit. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Sharp LC32D40U is lcd tv that has back light that is not similar to dlp tv lamp.
Please check back light inverter in your tv that produce light in lcd screen.

If it is getting dim, it may mean that the inveter board is not getting proper 24vdc feeding it from the power supply module, worst cas will be inverter board.

Check the other posts. This is a known problem with a known fix. Keep bugging Sharp till they send someone out. Or, pay a tech to fix it. Repair parts will be one set of screws. Cost of the labor may be worth not having to deal with Sharp customer service.

This is a known problem with this unit, although Sharp doesn't like to admit it. As mentioned in other posts, the fix is the simple replacement of four screws in one of the circuit boards. But I would suggest you have it done by a pro. Fool around in there yourself and you may make things worse. I bugged Sharp for several months before they admitted the problem and sent a tech out.

if you still have sound, the problem is internal. it is really easy to fix, but you got to take it apart. Their is a board inside that wasn't installed/tightened properly. On this site, search "picture goes out " and you will find easy to follow instructions to fix it.
