I HAVE A BLACK AND DECKER IRON-DIGITAL ADVANTAGE,
Bring the iron to a Hardware store, ask for a set of tools right for the type of screws (maybe Torx, Security Torx, tri-wing, bristol and others).
Once you can open the iron and access to the cord you may change the power cord. it is easy.
Power goes on & off because the power cord is broken. This failure is very common on irons.
Good luck
My iron just stopped heating What can I do
You need to check the following for circuit contintinuity:-
The plug and wall socket
The leads, both the live and the neutral
The temperature selector (Thermostat)
The thermal fuses
The element
To do this testing you will have to strip the iron and get to the wire ends, the thermal fuses and the element terminals. (My guess is that it is the thermal fuses. They are little metal tubes wires attached and are usually insulated in white fibre glass tubing and attached to the element plate).

hello,
what his sign indicate is that there is disconnection of power connection over to the element i.e the heater (heat provider).
what you need to do to fix up this problem is to open (unscrew) it then trace the wire down to the element inside the system it self the element is silver in colour fix up the wire back, to the back of the element then with this the problem of the error message is solve. disconnect all source of power supply to the connected to it .
thank you.
Cord
If the iron is still in warranty send it back via the shop where you bought it, the inner wire is frayed and needs replacement, if you know an electrician its as simple as shortening the flex by a few inches and reattaching it again. the inner wires twist with time and become frayed or come loose from connection
The automatic shutoff won't let the iron heat up
you either need to press a small button on the protection to reactivate it, or buy a new one and replace it. But first check the thermostat, since there is a reason for all this. Check also the heating element with an ohmmeter.
Switch light goes on when pressed but goes off if not pressed
Switch light goes on when pressed but goes off if... OR iron does not heat at all even pressing the button to turn it on continually.
Don't understand which one question you are asking
But if there is no heat at all after switching it on, it needs to go to iron heaven but be sure to cut the plug of the end, Saftey reasons at the dump. BUT if lights are coming on the iron is working. the large dial on the water filler is temperature control. Turn this around to cotton or linen.
The light will come on and off while in use, it allows you to know that the iron has cooled and is going back to your select temperature( on the large dial)
Make sure that you use water in the iron as it will aid your ironing and make it quicker. Make sure that the iron temperature dial on the water filler is at the correct temperature for the item that you are ironing.
Hope this helps
