My Amana refrigerator defrost timer is supposed to
Relax, some people exagerate was all I was saying.
Anyhow, go to a good parts store and ask for a Supco EDT (Electronic Defrost Timer) replacement as they are more reliable and not much difference in price.
The light in the fridge
Some times It's just the compressor relay, attached to the compressor where the wires connect, that would be your simplest fix. Just unplug the refer remove the back bottom cover, remove the cover over the compressor wiring connection and pull off the slide on Relay, shake it and if it rattles, It's bad.
Good Luck
Where is the defrost timer
I have a top freezer configuration. I adjusted the two dials because I was trying to save some power because the refigerator was only beling used on the weekends. However the next weekend the the inside tempwerature was warmer than room temperature. After removing the back panel and vacuuming the coils, i plugged back in and it got cold but a few hours later it warmed back up. It has done this twice and I have left it unplugged because it was not needed. is there a possibility an automatic deforst cycle is stuck?
Freezer is working but fridge is cool not cold
the damper door vent is not opening fully if at all between the refrige and freezer compartments,it can freeze up from condensation or if controlled by a motor the motor can be bad its behind a plastic grille
Chest freezer not used for many years will not run
May be possible but most likely electrical, turn it on for 1 minute, listen for any clicks, turn it off, feel the compressor, if it is seized it will be warming up, if cold the problem is electrical quite likely the thermostat.

I would suggest replaceing the overload/relay w/capacitor .
Pt # 67005560 . This piece , easily plugs onto the side of the compressor . If you replace it now , since it is already burnt , it would save you the trouble of replacing it later , when the compressor will not restart . It will happen again , due to the burning .
