Garmin edge 305 heart rate monitor
I had the same problem, but it was unresolved using the above info. I finally went into the menu (Settings / System / Accessories) and selected Restart Scan. All is well now =)
Garmin 305 Edge and GSC 10 not receiving one another
Solution copied from Garmin
Pairing the Edge 305 and sensors
Once you have installed the Garmin Edge 305 and the
cadence sensor they need to be paired. As they communicate wirelessly
with each other the Edge needs to connect to each sensor before it can
receive input from it.
The initial pairing needs to be done away from other
wireless systems this allows the Edge to pick up the sensors it is
supposed to be monitoring. This is a little like black magic, but it
seems to work quite easily.
The cadence sensor has a small press contact which puts the sensor into pairing mode. The HRM just seemed to connect by itself.
Subsequent pairing is much faster as the Edge 305 seems
to remember which sensors it is paired with. If you have problems or
need to change one of the sensors then you can use a setup feature to
either turn the sensor off or to re-pair it.
Lost History
May not be linked to date of ride. Device has a limited memory, so you have to erase history when long rides, or frequent rides.
When memory is full, device is managing by erasing older data waypoints.
You may also activate intelligent recording of waypoints, that calculates waypoints record when direction or speed changes. This optimizes memory usage.
Garmin Edge 305 shuts off from vibrations during normal use.

This is a common problem with 305/205... there is a battery connection in unit that thru use becomes strained(hence rough road shutdown) i followed the instructions in the blog and inserted a spacer in battery terminus and no more probs... good luck
Uploading info from the Edge 305
Apperently my unit had some old data prior to my purchase, (amzon selling returned equipment I imagine)
Anyway, I did a hard reset, (turn the power on while holding the mode button down) Erases all history. I then paired up my accessories again, tested it in 1 second mode and smart recording mode. The hard reset seemed to work for me. My 305 edge is now downloading map and graph data to my PC. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.
Heart monitor doesn't work
I have heard that the gold connector does not always connect with the +ive part of the battery. Others have bent the gold connector out slightly and the problem has been solved. Good luck.
Suddenly turning off
Your battery is dead. You'll need to return it to Garmin for repairs. Mine did the exact same thing. Functioned fine in the cradle - showed full battery - but shut off immediately upon removal. They know about the problem and shipped me a new unit for free.
How to prevent Drive52 continually resetting itself ?
By 'resetting' you mean it switches off, and because it is connected to power, it boots back up. Do you have a SD Card in it?
I had trouble with a Nuvi 1350 with SD Card that had the whole USA Map on it, mine came with the Canada Map only. It would randomly turn off, so I decided to buy a Factory Refurbished Drive 50. I removed the SD Card and Reset the Nuvi and it worked perfectly after that.
The Drive 50 was also a bit flaky, and resetting fixed that as well.
You can back up your Favourites beforehand.

I have the Garmin etrex 20x and wish to calibrate the compass
I recently purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 78s
I had a lot of trouble calibrating the compass; I literally tried it hundreds of times without success. I also did a hard reset etc etc. Believe me I definitely tried everything possible but to no avail
I did contact Garmin but they didn't have an answer straight away for the problem
I have now sorted it as follows:
Do each step VERY SLOWLY, MUCH slower than you think you should
There are three steps to go through in calibrating the compass 1)Spinning the whole unit around flat 2)Flipping it over longitudinally and then 3) Flipping it over end to end. But remember do each step VERY slowly and go to the next step when prompted by the unit
This solved my issue. I can now calibrate my compass 9 out of 10 attempts
Hope that helps

Garmin nuvi 50LM cant access on mtp settings
To open the MTP settings on your Garmin Nuvi 50LM, you will need to access the device's menu. From the main menu, select the "Settings" option and then select the "System" option. From there, you should be able to access the MTP settings. If you are still unable to access the settings, you may need to contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Garmin 120 wont turn on
Hi Earl,
Sometime it could just be of aging. I have a 130, it was having similar problems, until i realized it was the screen not showing, but power on turning on. In your case, I probably probably try a hard factory reset as follows:
To perform a master reset:
- Turn off the device.
- Press the PAGE, ENTER2, and POWER buttons simultaneously.
- Release all buttons once the Do you really want to erase all user data? message appears.
- Select Yes.
hope this helps!
