Downloading from camera to laptop.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your laptop computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Want to retrieve a deleted video

If the video was on a memory card and you haven't done anything to the card since you deleted the video, try this. Do a Google search for "data recovery software" and select a program for your computer and operating system. Put the card into a card reader connected to your computer and run the program.

Battery life does not last.

The rechargeable battery has come to the end of its life. You'll need to replace the battery and let the new battery go through a complete charge cycle before using.

Card locked

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

It doesn't power on

Your camera can be defected. If you buy new batteries, and it still doesn't work, than you'll probably want to send it back to the manufacturer. First, call them and tell them your problem, and if that doesn't work, than you might want to carefully examine your camera, to check if everything is in the correct place, and their all working correctly.

I can see my pictures in the camera but i cannot see the picture if i connect it to my computer

Install the software from the CD that came with the camera (or download it from Canon's website), Plug the camera in using the USB cable and the computer should go through it's Found New Hardware routine. What you do now depends on what software and operating system you have. The easiest is probably to install Picasa and use the import function.

What is a card reader?

A card reader is a device that connects to your computer, usually via USB or FireWire. It then makes the memory card appear to the computer as an external hard drive. You can then copy files (including pictures and videos) to and from the computer as if it were any other hard drive. Using one is usually the best way to download pictures from a digital camera.
