Sounds as if you have dirty drive path for the paper. Printers are bad about ink leaking (especially if not used often) and cleaning well involves some disassembly. The ink is very messy so wear rubber gloves. Clean around print cartridges, rollers, and also the glass for scans.

restart your printer like this: go to control panel>
performance and maintenance>administrative tools> services> scroll down until you come to print spooler, click on this then on the upper side of your screen you will see restart, click on it.
This should get you up and running. Shame on your repair man for not showing you how to fix the problem.
You could even try not aligning the cartridges, this will just cause your printer to spit out an alignment page each time you turn it on but still should go ahead and print for you.

During a V.34 transmission, the local machine is unable to connect (handshake) with the remote machine and is consequently unable to send a T30 frame. This occurs when the line is disconnected or if line conditions degrade during the session.

Solutions

• Remove any pass-through devices from the phone line, and then try the fax again.
• Confirm that the fax/phone cable is no longer than required or on a long extension and that it does not pass near unshielded electric motors such as fans, heaters, or household appliances.
• If the line is ADSL broadband (Internet) enabled ensure that there is sufficient filtering into the telephone socket. You existing filter may need replacing.
  

Mac uses a generic driver for all printers. have you verified that duplex printing is check under the printer options?

System Prefs -> Print & Fax -> select the printer, Options and supplies -> driver.

NOTE: if it says print using "Generic postscript driver" you will need to install the manufacturer driver for the printer to get the option to turn on the duplex printing.

there will be more than 1 reason why you cant pront having that error if there is a specific error message like The product displays a '0x ... ' error message. The exact text of the error varies by product, but it is usually preceded by the word 'Error .' pls. see the link below for this type of error.

Hi you should download drivers from HP website (if you don't have original CD's) and install them. After installing all the software you can plug in your printer and Windows will install all the remaining software automatically

Hey well the cartridge could be faulty,,is it a genuine hp,,Those generic ones u can sometimes find arent that good,,but check the hp website for solutions,,there very helpful,,thats why hp is my favorite computer manufacturer,,goodluck

TRY Using the HP Network Diagnostic Utility in Windows - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Remove the cartridge and check to make sure it is the correct one for that model. If it is, clean the contacts on the cartridge to make sure they are free from obstruction like ink on the contacts - these are NOT the jets (be careful). Use a clean q-tip to remove the obstruction. Make sure when the cartridge is inserted back into the printer that you get a good connection - they should lock into place.

Simply need to reconfigure or reinstall the complete printer driver and also need to setup the fax settings. Do take the assistance of the manufacturer to do it in order to get the issue resolved completely.....................

Hi,

Disconnect the power cord from back of the printer ( while printer is power on )
While holding the # and 6 key connect the cord back
( This step will erase all the fax logs and settings you have set on the printer )

Also
Press the Setup button and Scroll to FAX SETTINGS ( or ADVANCED FAX SETTINGS )
Check for ECM ( Error correction mode ) - Press OK
Turn it OFF

Finally if the issue is still not resolved,
Disconnect the Phone cord from Printer port and re-connect
Check for any other loose connections ( of phone socket ) within the house. ( disconnect and reconnect )

The Error message should go off
