Hi,

This is a Common Problem with Tom Tom. You need to replace all the files with those I copied and burnt to a backup CD when you first Connected the GPS. Even if you try Map Update, through Home ( not an application update ), you would receive a ' No Maps ' message after Start Up. Plenty of Perfectly Goods Units are Replaced by Tom Tom. Might be that the Updates are Buggy or Corrupted.

you need to download tomtom home from the tomtom site so you can get the update for your XL. this normally cures the problem and tomtom home will do it almost automatically.

just choose your operating system, then after you run it on your computer, just follow the on screen instructions.

plug it in and let it charge for awhile using a know good charger, like the car charger. it has a indicator light to let you know its charging.

now press and hold the power button for up to ten seconds until it starts. if that fails


this is a very common problem for the models listed below.

the following magellan 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050 and the 6000 are known to have faulty dc connectors...if your magellan gps is not charging or will not power up, its most likely the dc power port...

Does your Win7 computer recognize any USB devices? If not, this is a device problem.

There could be a problem with the cord. You may need to replace it.

First thing I'd do is download and install the latest version of Tom Tom Home.

i cannot get tomtom home the message home runtime.exe failed with error 0 appears please help before i have to return and get a different make my tomtom tels me to update but want conect , thanks . sean

Cannot get a valid GPS signal=
not fully charged on AC charger
not right baud rate or port
antenna disconnected inside unit
Burned SIIRF chip ( from plugging in to car power when starting engine)

Try charging the unit fully first......

rare for antenna to become disconnecetd unless dropped or opened.

baudrate and port can often be found automatically in GPS settings

Burned Chip requires a full Motherboard replacement Might as well buy a new GPS cost exceeds value.

tomtom is the best in gps navigation, if tats not responsive, it might be problem in the gps, try formatting the device with tomtom one software.
If it doesn't work you got to take it to service centers, or can try online

First contact support and pay for your update they will send you a licence number. You connect to the URL and enter the number and the download will begin. You may be asked to renter the number on the GPS at the conclusion. Dont start6 downloading till you8 pay for it otherwise you will not be able to recover your GPS

Depending on the operating system of your TomTom you should be able to tap the screen then tap the forward arrow until you see "add favorite". Tap "add favorite" then tap "address", then tap "street and house number". Type in the city. This will bring up a screen with several cities on it. Select the city you want, then type in the street name. the next screen will let you put the street number in. tap done. Tap OK on the next screen.

Make sure to power the Tomtom on after plugging it in

Plug it into your computer and download all the software updates. That has fixed it for me. In fact, it will probably find your location faster than ever after that
