tomtom is not designed for marine use and there is no fix possible

If you have a new tomtom then the cameras will be valid for 12 months then as you say require a annual subscription. The unit will tell you they are out of date if you have not connected to tomtom via your computer for a month. Recommend you update once a month so it can download the available updates such as safety cameras, gps quickfix and map share correction and any navcore improvements they have released.

Before you start using your (new) TomTom GPS device, you'll want to charge it (fully) first. It may take a couple of hours of more to do the first charge. And then, you can connect it to your PC , go to the TomTom.com web site and register the device.

It may be likely that the map data(base) is corrupted. Have you tried running a (fix) disk utility against your (internal or external) storage disk for the GPS ? For instance, connect the GPS to your PC (Windows), and select (highlight) the (internal) "disk" on the GPS device. Under File - Properties, go to the Tools (tab) and run the "Error-Checking" option. This utility may fix your data error. If not, consider doing a restore (from backup) of your GPS disk storage.

If it was not registered you should register it on the TOMTOM website. You will need to download the TomTom Home software and install it on your computer. When you connect the GPS device to the computer the HOme Application will open and you may be able to update the device.If is was not used before you may have the right to download the newest version of the map that shipped with the GPS.

I do some work with TomTom - it's possible that if something interrupted or went wrong during the install, the map could have been deleted. TomTom is aware of the problem and is working to fix it - if you are map-less, call support (866 486 6866) and we can work on getting you a new map.

To change the language back to english, from the main screen tap anywhere on the map, then tap the wrench icon then press the right arrow icon until you see the icon of three flags. Tap the three flags icon and use the up and down arrows on the side to find English and then tap english and thats all there is to it.

I do recommend that you review the Device in Question # 1 (Select your device) to insure the correct model is selected. You should be able to obtain the model number off of the rear of the GPS unit.

Menu -> Change Preferences -> Volume Preferences will allow you to change the volume. There is also a shortcut to click on the 'distance to next turn' button on the navigation screen to access the same thing.

Then follow the step by step instructions to change the language, should take you through screen by screen so even though its in Spanish you should be able to follow it and change it to English.

The GPS receiver is built to take signals from a system of satellites and triangulate the location of the device, then to show a representation of your current location on a map. You should perform a map upgrade and here is how to do it..

Go to the TomTom website and download the "Home" application. Click on the file to install it on your computer.

Connect your TomTom to your computer through the USB cable that came with your device. Just plug it in and then the "Home" application should start.

Sign in to your TomTom account by providing your user credentials or create a user account if you don't have one. Purchase the "Map Upgrade" option. For a relatively small fee, you can purchase map upgrades for a period such as one year that will provide you with quarterly map updates. The "Home" software will download and install the newest maps for your current location.

Generally, all the models that come with the TTS has the model number appended with "S". for example: xl 340S, xl 330S etc. The models that does not come with the TTS feature can be made possible to add this feature only if the application on the device is updated. This is possible only if the TomTom releases an application update, which incorporate the TTS feature in it. Else there is NO third party application that can be downloaded and installed on the device to have it enabled or added.
