Flash icon blinks red, but won't work.

I had the same problem, called Samsung and they sent me a shipping label via email. I sent to their repair 12/15/08 and got the fixed camera today, 12/18/08. Very quick service - they replaced the lens. Camera now flashes.

Some stupid person has dropped

You should try to get that stupid person to buy you a new camera if the following doesn't help. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

My flash is not working

First try and take the SD card out and turn the camera off then on again. If that doesn't fix the problem, then: Turn it on, the hold the menu button for 20 seconds.

Hope this helps!

Hello from Bulgaria :) can

That depends on the subject matter and, more importantly, on what YOU want the picture to say. Usually for landscapes you'd want a deep depth of field while for portraits you'd want a narrow depth of field. You wouldn't want a picture taken outdoors on a sunny day to have the same mood as a picture taken at night. That's why there are so many settings. If there was such a thing as optimal settings for all pictures, we might not need anything other than on/off switch and the shutter release button.

Again, YOU must decide the settings (even if it's only to hand control over to the camera in one of the automatic modes). You and I could be taking pictures of the same thing at the same time using the same type camera, and there's a good chance we'd be using different settings. It's not that one set of settings is better or worse than the other.

Will not download pictures now. It used to. USB

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I took picture w/o SD card. Don't know how to transfer to SD

Search the menus for an entry for "copy". It should give you the option to copy the internal memory to a memory card. You could also take the camera and a usb connecting cord to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture maker machine. You can plug the camera into the usb slot and print the picture.

Locked card

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.
