This answer may be a bit late but if this flashing of the red and green light is accompanied by a sound of a motor starting and stopping over and over, it is NOT toner, but a defective capacitor in the power supply. Here is a photo of the part that is creating the problem. I am not responsible for any harm done to yourself so please make sure you know what you are doing.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I'd add this bit of info. I just fixed my ML-2010 by first replacing a torn pickup tire, but it still kept picking up multiple pages. I read a different post where the person traced it to a bad solenoid that was sticking in the open position as he described it. He replaced the solenoid, but on mine the solenoid was working, but I found it was sticking when closed. It is supposed to close and open once at the start of each page. Mine would close and stay closed sometimes until the start of the next page which would, of course, cause another pulse to energize the solenoid. I found it was due to a deteriorated thin half moon-shaped foam pad on the top of the solenoid's electromagnet that would cause the part that gets pulled in to stick to it for a couple of seconds before the spring would overcome the pad's stickiness and release it. I replaced the foam pad with a then piece of sticky-back felt that I cut to fit. When I reassembled it, it worked perfectly.The way to get to the solenoid is to pull the covers, take the power supply boards off the back(as one unit, attached to a metal baseplate) and remove the panel underneath it, noting the screws and connections along the way. On the side where the solenoid is attached, I also saw a "split" gear that appeared to have a mark showing how they matched together, so be sure to realign the marks if they become separated before reassembly. Beyond that, it was a simple inexpensive repair. As these machines age, I would bet this is a major cause of this issue.

This may be a help. I had a similar problem with an ML-2850 which fresh out of the box refused to print, not even a test page, green light followed by red and the smart panel showed that the printer thought that there was no toner in it.
After struggling with it for an hour I hit upon the following.
Turn off the printer.
Take out the toner cartridge.
In the hole where the toner came from there's a gear on the left hand side which is sort of diagonal mesh to match the underside of the toner cartridge. Rock it back and forth a bit and then stick the cartridge back in.
My guess is, if you're unlucky when you install a new cartridge you could have a situation where the gear is in exactly the wrong position, tooth to tooth with the underside of the toner so this gear doesn't mesh properly, the cartridge doesn't seat properly, which then shows the printer as having no toner in it. Waggling the gear just changes the position slightly and then voila. A bit like rocking a car back and forth in gear to free a stuck starter motor.

I just finished fixing my ml-2510 with the identical problem. you can take the pick up rubber and its housing off without removing the shaft. after taking off the front panel and taking out the upper paper tray and the toner you have lots of room to get your hands in there (make sure it's unplugged before you start). two plastic side supports hold the rubber housing in. lift the tab on one and slide it to the side. the housing will now come out . take note of the positioning of all these parts before taking them apart. I sometimes use a digital camera for this purpose. the housing snaps apart and the rubber band slides off. I turned it inside out and put everything back together. works great now (for another year I hope). It's not difficult, it took me about 30 minutes, but be gentle with these plastic parts. I needed a small flat head screw driver and a good lamp. the easiest way is to stand the printer up on its back and reach down inside the hole with the lamp set up over top. good luck.hope this helps.

when printing specific pages the valid range is in this format 1,3,5,7,9,11 etc or if printing even numbers 2,4,6,8 etc or if printing specific pages 1,5,17,21,23,24,32 etc what makes it a valid range is the comma between the numbers, no spacing and no full stop at the end to further add confusion when printing all of the pages just click all pages and it will print one sided all of the pages so no numbering is required however if you want to save paper and reduce the size of the document click pages 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 through to ,57 print those pages then turn them all around and upside down reinsert in the printer now select pages 2,4,6,8 through to ,58 and print that will give you printed data on each side of the paper in the correct page number order to get to know how to reinsert the paper test with a print page 1 then reinsert and print page 2 to make sure that you have turned the paper the right way round
