Nikon COOLPIX P5000 Digital Camera Questions & Answers
Coolpix p5000 viewfinder does not react to zoom
So from what I read her I think you can't use the viewfinder. It was the reason why I bought a powershot G9, a viewfinder. But on my camera, the viewfinder can't be used anymore, because of a mechanical problem. While zooming, what you see through the viewfinder stays the same. I don't think of giving the camera to a repair shop, because the camera still makes perfect pictures. And yes I would love the view finder to work like it used to be, but I leave it.
If your camera is still in warranty time, please contact a Nikon certified service centre immediately. If you have to pay for it, think twice and start saving for a new camera, if you still can make pictures.
Memory card write protected messgae when i turn on camera (lock is not on)
It sounds like the sensor make be blocked. 1. check with another card and verify the tab isn't damaged. 2. use canned air to blow out lint or dust from the optical sensor that sees the tab. if it's a switch rather than a sensor, it may be damaged or have a rusty contact. a shop can clean or replace it.
Emailing videos/movies
you should have a photo editting program on your computer. Windows comes with 'Paint' that will work nicely. You need to RESIZE the pictures before sending them via e-mail.
Open the photo program, find 'resize' option, then 'save as' a new file name.
It's poor etiquette to send HUGE pics as attachments. Your friends will appreciate a nice size photo that fits the monitor.
My Nikon P5000 Coolpix has a lens problem. When i
Hello
The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the
probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.
Use
these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.
Firstly ,
try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.
Try holding the
shutter button while switching on the camera.
Look at the lens ,
and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then
try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).
Try gently
pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may
cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.
Another
way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and
then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to
not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and
down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the
camera is enough to get things going again.
Try hitting your
camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of
your hand.
Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to
replace the camera.
If it is still under warranty I would suggest
you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any
off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about
warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need

You can download the current version of Nikon Transfer from http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.
There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".
Pictures will not transfer off the camera
Here's a silly suggestion for you... is the "lock" engaged on your memory card? It will be a small sliding lock portion on the SD card. If yes, unlock it and try again.
