Hi you all, I have a Olympus Evolt E-510. I tried to update the firmware but something goes wrong... My son unhooked the cable and as result the camera does not turn on anymore. Any suggestion to re-f

What I understand is that the firmware needs to be in place to get the camera to accept a firmware update. Someone with the right tolls and an eprom programmer could probably load a new firmware on the camera, but that would be more expensive than having the manufacturer do it. I don't think that you can put it through a factory reset and get the existing firmware to boot up, so you may not have any option but to send it back to Olympus or buy another camera.

I guess the solution to my E510 pop up flash

you can use Sony or Canon ,so http://www.batterieschargerstore.co.ukvar gtbTranslateOnElementLoaded;(function(){var lib = null;var checkReadyCount = 0;function sendMessage(message, attrs) { var data = document.getElementById("gtbTranslateElementCode"); for (var p in attrs) { data.removeAttribute(p); } for (var p in attrs) { if ("undefined" != typeof attrs[p]) { data.setAttribute(p, attrs[p]); } } var evt = document.createEvent("Events"); evt.initEvent(message, true, false); document.dispatchEvent(evt);}function checkLibReady (){ var ready = lib.isAvailable(); if (ready) { sendMessage("gtbTranslateLibReady", {"gtbTranslateError" : false}); return; } if (checkReadyCount++ > 5) { sendMessage("gtbTranslateLibReady", {"gtbTranslateError" : true}); return; } setTimeout(checkLibReady, 100);}gtbTranslateOnElementLoaded = function () { lib = google.translate.TranslateService({}); sendMessage("{EVT_LOADED}", {}, []); var data = document.getElementById("gtbTranslateElementCode"); data.addEventListener("gtbTranslate", onTranslateRequest, true); data.addEventListener("gtbTranslateCheckReady", onCheckReady, true); data.addEventListener("gtbTranslateRevert", onRevert, true); checkLibReady();};function onCheckReady() { var ready = lib.isAvailable(); sendMessage("gtbTranslateLibReady", {"gtbTranslateError" : !ready});}function onTranslateRequest() { var data = document.getElementById("gtbTranslateElementCode"); var orig = data.getAttribute("gtbOriginalLang"); var target = data.getAttribute("gtbTargetLang"); lib.translatePage(orig, target, onProgress);}function onProgress(progress, opt_finished, opt_error) { sendMessage("gtbTranslateOnProgress", {"gtbTranslateProgress" : progress, "gtbTranslateFinished" : opt_finished, "gtbTranslateError" : opt_error});}function onRevert() { lib.restore();}})(); (function(){var d=window,e=document,f=".",g="UTF-8",h="complete",i="head",j="link",k="script",l="stylesheet",m="text/css",n="text/javascript";Math.floor(Math.random()*2147483648).toString(36);function o(b){var a=e.getElementsByTagName(i)[0];a''(a=e.body.parentNode.appendChild(e.createElement(i)));a.appendChild(b)}function _loadJs(b){var a=e.createElement(k);a.type=n;a.charset=g;a.src=b;o(a)}function _loadCss(b){var a=e.createElement(j);a.type=m;a.rel=l;a.charset=g;a.href=b;o(a)}function _isNS(b){for(var b=b.split(f),a=d,c=0;c

My Olympus e 510 is one year old. worked fine, but

I have the same problem and I strong suspect the circuit board is going bad. No matter what lens I use, distance from subject, etc. makes any difference. Unfortunately, the fix is about $200.00 - and having to invest $200.00 per year to keep it going is not a viable option for anyone.

Hi there. I have an

I'm not really sure what's going on, but it could also be a hardware problem, or maybe ribbon connector inside the camera from the usb port to the main board, or maybe a bent pin in the usb connector.
Check it out carefully, and remove the batteries, in case you haven't tried that already.
Here's Olympus' website of FAQ's, and you might browse the firmware and updating the lens section...just find the word "usb" on the page, and you'll be at that section:
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_support_faqs.asp?id=1295
I noticed the usb has to be set to "storage", but not sure if it has to be set back or not.
Couldn't find any reports on the net about this problem, so you might see what Olympus says, and get a repair estimate.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Olympus E510, Flash Flicker

If you are in a low lit area with the camera dial set to Auto the flash will do a strobing type of flash trying to help allow more light into the scene. This is called the AF illuminator function. To just go ahead and take the image, put the camera dial to P (program Auto) go to Menu - go to Wrench 1 tab - then right arrow over and then down arrow to AF Illum - right arrow and turn this function from On to Off and then take the image in the P mode setting. No flash flicker should occur.

About all you can try is to get a can of compressed air from Walmart ($4) and spray it into the lens assembly from the front. The shutter may have a bit of dust, dirt, or lint causing it to catch. If you get lucky, you'll dislodge it and be good to go.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

The 510 seems to have trouble auto-focusing in low light. Manual focus works if there is enough light for your eyes.

I have the Olympus E-510.

First make sure that the viewfinder glass is clean. If that is not the problem, it may be that the diopter adjustment has been accidentally changed. On the right side of the viewfinder screen is a very small knob. This adjusts the focus of the viewfinder to your vision. Aim your camera at a stationary object and let the camera auto focus. Look throught the viewfinder and turn this knob one click at a time until the image is clearest to you. Hope this helps.

Olympus E-510 Flash & Auto-Focus Problems

Sounds like the main circuit board has got problems. If its under warranty use the manufacturer. But if not a camear store should be able to provide a quote. I admit that the repair will be about 150-180 because of the time involved in replacing the board and possibly the flash unit.
But quotes before bankruptcy..

In some instances these problems are related. Either your film speed or shutter speed are set incorrectly for the lighting.

Strobe can be set to OFF in setup. Although it does help with ensuring you have the subject correctly framed before shooting in dark or lowlight situations

AF problem,,can be
distracting objects near lens.. dirt on lens

wrong weighting selected.. try centre.. those red boxes you see when you press the shutter button and look through the eyepiece.. they form a cross generally If you have only one side weighted then the AF may sometimes play up.

read the manual carefully to understand some of these things. It will pay off with better pics

wrong shutter s[peed
wrong ISO ( film speed) as related to old ASA for film
camera set to macro mode indstead of normal
