My problem is that all of a sudden my less than 1 year old HP laptop started running slowly, very slowly. I looked in programs and uninstalled all unnecessary, and I also ran AdAware to see if there was anything there, and I used AVG antivirus. My kids have played the Travian online game, but they have been doing that on several of the computers in our house, so I do not believe that is the problem. At any rate, I restored to factory conditions, 4 times now, and it is NOT acting like it did when I first got it! lol I use Windows Mail, which does not let me see the message now, only the subject line, To and From, date and time, no messsage, also IE 7 does not load properly. I have been reading and I see where some people swear it is antivirus software that causes some of these problems, this came with a trial of Norton, which I did not use before anyway. Any suggestions on what to do? I am currently using Recovery Manager and recovering to factory conditions for the 4th or 5th time, the last two times I get to the sign on screen and there should not be a password or user name, because it is back to factor condition!!!! How am I supposed to know the user name and password? I did try what I was using before, but to no avail. That is why I have done the last two system restores. Could this be a hardware failure? Are there any know hardware issues with this? It does seem to have issues cooling, the bottom gets very hot, so hot it can't be put on your lap without discomfort. I keep it off of flat surfaces so there is generally pretty good ventilation for the fans. Thanks so much for your time and suggestions! Brenda
I have a 3 year-old DV2000 that recently has been overheating and shutting itself down. I installed a program called Core Temp to see if it was overheating. After switching it on, the temperature would quickly climb to about 80ºC at idle and go above 90º if I used the internet or any program that required a lot of processing. I saw the temperature go up to 100ºC whilst using Skype yesterday, at which point the computer switched off and I had to let it cool down for a while before switching it back on. It was also running incredibly slowly at times and I was worried it might have a virus.
Today I finally found a can of compressed air (hard to find here in Bogota) and sprayed some into the air vents at the back left-hand corner (this took about 2 minutes). When I switched the computer on, the temperature was stable at 55ºC and has reached a maximum of 60ºC under load. Right now, it is at 58ºC and is running much faster than it was before. The product I used is called "Air Express" (made in Mexico) and it is basically a canister of compressed air.

I forgot my user and administrator password. I can get into a screen that says safe mode, safe mode with command prompt and another safe mode.
How do you get to start after you click on safe modeand which safe mode do you click on??
Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.
1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.
2th Method:
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but we’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
Windows Password Recovery Tool is one of the easiest password recovery tools to use. It allows you to reset a user account password, including the Administrator password. It is also a relatively small download.

I have an HP Pavilion dv2000 that used to work perfectly, especially with the wireless internet, by a switch in the front of the machine.
I woke up one day and I tried to hop online, but all that was available was Bluetooth and WLAN was no longer an option. Anytime i tried to search for networks to hop on, there were none available, when there were always networks available before. I checked the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled them, went into the BIOS to enable the Internal Network Adapter, but nothing is working. Plus, i am not covered by the Extended Service Plan offered by HP for Laptop repairs.
I think i may be missing something very minor here, but i am at a loss for what to do. could you please help me?
There is a service called Wireless Zero Configuration.
Restart this service.....
Windows Vista
To start Wireless Zero Configuration in Windows Vista you need to log in as an Administrator.
Windows XP
Windows XP users must have Service Pack 2 installed to activate the Wireless Zero Configuration. (How do I check that?)
Let me know if the problem is solve...
rate me if you think it helps you..
best regards

Every now and then when I'm typing I somehow lock the keyboard onto the blue function keys. For example, when I press the key for a question mark, it makes a french accented "e", and I can't figure out how to unlock it.
Hi, I had the same problem and found the solution on another website:
To turn on and off Bilingual blue keys:
Hit Ctrl + Shift + shift
(yes, both shift keys at the same time in addition to ctrl)
and that turns on and off the Canadian bilingual blue keys on HP lap tops.
It's so annoying and happens to me frequently. Hope this helps.
