First, remove the memory card and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. Then put the card back into the camera and format it by pressing and holding the two format buttons (trash can and exposure compensation buttons) until the LCD blinks. Release and then press the two buttons again to format the card.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we'll go on from there.

This is not an error, it is telling you how many pictures can be taken in quick succession and stored in RAM, for writing to the memory card at the card's speed. It's described at the bottom of page 36 in your manual, I looked it up.

Backup the pictures from your camera and reset the camera from the menu or by ref to the manual. This will mostly take care of the problem you are having...
Alternately : you can try using a different lens too!

For the best under $1000, that would be the D90.

This doesn't sound like the type of problem that can be fixed by the end user. I would recommend that you return the camera to Nikon for factory service. You should follow the directions on this page to learn the particulars about how to do this (shipping address, RMA info, etc.) before packaging and sending.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please rate my reply - thank you.

If you wish to manually view all the photos you've taken, press the play button, it is located near the screen on the back with a triangle logo.

If you wish to automatically view photos after they've been taken, press the menu button, go to the sub menu with the pencil icon, and turn "Image review" to on.

If you wish to view the images on the back screen as you take them, this is not possible with the D80. You have to use the viewfinder.

The issue is in the contact point between your camera body and whatever lens you are using. When the lens is screwed on to the camera it is not contacting the body; the camera essentially doesn't think a lens is present.

You can rectify this a few different ways:
1) Remove the lens and put it back on. Make sure to twist tightly so the contact is tight.
2) Take a pencil eraser to the small contacts to clean them off
3) If that doesn't fix the issue try another lens (borrow from a friend if needed). If the problem goes away you know the contacts on the lens need adjustment through the manufacturer.
4) Lastly, if 1-3 do not work. Send your camera body to the manufacturer to get the contacts fixed.

Most likely, the connection between the lens and the camera is a little sketchy. Try twisting the lens (not the zoom) back and forth a little, this should make it regain connection. If not, remove the lens and wipe off the contacts on the lens with a clean cloth, this may fix the problem.
Hope it works for you!

How do you turn off automatic flash manually on

Assuming you're in one of the point&shoot modes (any mode other than the PSAM modes), press and hold the flash button on the front of the camera and turn the main command dial on the back to cycle through the available flash modes. To turn flash off, select the lightning bolt in a circle with a slash through it.

In the PSAM modes the flash will not pop up on its own.

Hello!
Please clean the contacts on the hot shoe and shoe foot, and confirm that there is communication between the camera and flash.
We are talking about a SB that works well until you put on the shoe.

The flash will not turn on the display, and the ready light not lit.

Hi, first try cleaning the contact lens and body (off Camera & Without bat.) isopropyl alcohol.
Do you hear any noise in the lens when you focus on auto?
If your answer is yes, maybe the SWM has been stuck and not turning.
If you have the tools and you can carefully try to disarm it by removing the screws holding the lens connector 2 screws, then holding the back cover ring 3 screws and it comes out, you let the sw AM VR on / off, and eventually take away the bayonet unscrewing the screws that hold it.
Remove the cover and can you see

There may be some connection misaligned flexible connectors.
SWM bad.
Electrical bad component.

I hope will be usefull.

Turn camera "off, replace battery and turn "On" again. If thre is a hardware reset button (check manual carefully) while camera is "On" use that reset button/

Hi,

You may try resetting your camera to default settings. It's white balance might have been tweaked for custom settings. Find the two buttons with green dots next to them on the top right of D80. They are the +/-* and AF* buttons. Hold them both down for a few seconds. The top LCD blinks and everything is back to factory settings. If problem persists, you may contact Nikon for further troubleshooting and repair.

I hope this works for you. Kindly reply for further assistance. Good Luck!
